FIRE PROTECTION ENGINEER/ENGINEERING ANALYST - PLANT VOGTLE 1&2
Southern Nuclear Operating Company's Plant Vogtle Engineering organization is seeking a high performing engineer with an analytical mindset and a desire to become an expert in programmatic and technical matters in the area of nuclear plant fire protection design. This position will be located at Southern Nuclear's Plant Vogtle units 1&2 in Waynesboro, Georgia near Augusta, GA.
Southern Nuclear, a subsidiary of Southern Company, manages and operates six nuclear power electric generating plants that provide approximately 20 percent of the electricity used in Alabama and Georgia. Southern Nuclear is leading the nuclear renaissance by building the first new U.S. nuclear reactors in more than 25 years. When completed, the two Westinghouse AP1000 reactors currently under construction at Plant Vogtle will make the facility the largest in the U.S. with four reactors on one site. Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide code and program expertise. Ensure program compliance with codes, standards, and regulations.
Prepare for NRC/INPO pre-operational inspections.
Monitor the testing and performance of the fire protection detection and suppression systems.
Review design/field changes for accuracy, program impact, and functional testing.
Develop and improve Preventive Maintenance tasks based on corrective actions and monitoring, Operating Experience, and PM feedback.
Develop and/or/provide technical support in the development of surveillance testing, fire protection pre-plans, and impairment monitoring and reporting processes.
Ensure appropriate training and guidance and appropriate reference materials are provided for station personnel who perform or review fire protection documents. Participate in and assess fire drills and emergency response exercises.
Review and respond to industry Operating Experience.
Job Requirements :
Plans, organizes and manages work to meet project schedules and changing priorities.
Evaluates equipment failures and recommends appropriate course of action.
Evaluates design changes to plant equipment.
Evaluates, monitors and trends plant data for assigned area of work or system.
Troubleshoots systems, performs predictive and root cause analysis, and determines corrective actions.
Plans assigned phases of preventive, routine and special maintenance programs and performs engineering evaluations of equipment needed for the operation of a safe and economical nuclear plant.
Provides guidance and training to other employees and contractors on technical issues within an assigned area of work or system.
Education Requirements:
Bachelor of Science degree in Fire Protection Engineering or Engineering degree from an accredited college or university highly preferred
Or Professional Engineer license in combination with 4 or more years of Fire Protection Engineering experience will be accepted in lieu of a degree in Fire Protection Engineering
Experience Requirements:
Minimum of four years in fire protection
Nuclear power plant experience is preferred
Membership in the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) is highly desired
Participation in key industry groups such as the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI), the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), is desired.
Technical Requirements:
Detailed knowledge of plant procedures and regulations in assigned area
Detailed knowledge of plant systems and processes
Working knowledge of computer software programs supporting assigned area

Establish and document enterprise-wide vision, strategy and objectives for the technology validation process and APART processes
Meet with key stakeholders to communicate strategy and gather feedback
Develop, document, and publish technology validation processes
Define Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Critical Success Factors (CSFs) that demonstrate and track process effectiveness and efficiency
Evaluate and analyze KPIs and CSFs regularly to drive process improvements

JOB SUMMARY:
The Productivity Technologies Manager position is responsible for overseeing collaboration tools used by the enterprise. The collaboration toolset is largely Microsoft based and includes Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive and Power Platform. The position also performs enterprise management for non-Microsoft based tools including Adobe and Miro. The position manages 8-12 employees or contract staff responsible for the architecture, engineering and 3 rd level support of the product set managed.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
B.S. degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Business, or another related field, is required.
Extensive knowledge of technology related disciplines, with a strong focus on collaboration products including Office 365. The incumbent must be knowledgeable on current and emerging relevant industry related products, techniques, and trends.
Attitude is critical, the incumbent must have a high degree of focus on quality and the business partner's technology experience. The Production Technologies Manager must be willing to challenge the status quo for the betterment of the business and the services provided.
Strong business acumen is mandatory. While the main core of this function is to provide collaboration technology solutions and services, the incumbent must constantly be mindful of the importance that the offered solutions provide excellent business value. The Productivity Technologies Manager is expected to stay attuned to the market, and adjust solution sets as needed to ensure Southern Company is maximizing the value of its technology investments and expenses. This includes evaluating new product releases for environmental fit.
Working knowledge of how the Technology Organization plays a key role in the successful daily operations across Southern Company.
Excellent vendor / supplier management skills. Our technology suppliers are a vital part of our technology eco-system; they need to be leveraged fully. The incumbent needs to be able to both negotiate with our vendor partners and hold them accountable for the service level quality they contractually committed to. The incumbent should be able to interface with technology vendors to define roadmaps, escalate issues, and solve complex problems.
Knowledge of the budgeting process and how to appropriately estimate costs and plan for ongoing technology projects and maintenance. Must understand basic budgetary principles and techniques, being able to distinguish, plan, and oversee capital and operating budgets. Knowledge of the Microsoft Renewal process and/or experience with Microsoft contract negotiations is a plus.

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Productivity Technologies Manager leads the teams responsible for architecting, engineering, and integrating our collaboration environments. This position has ownership of the delivery of collaboration products to business partners across Southern Company. Technologies include Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Power Platform, Power Automate, Miro, Adobe and Drop Box. This team evaluates products for enterprise adoption and evaluates existing product changes for adoption and environmental impact. Constant vendor driven and environmental change requires strong leadership to evaluate opportunities and avoid issues on an ongoing basis. Additionally, it requires the Productivity Technology Manger to maintain technical currency.
The Productivity Technologies Manager is expected to continually analyze demand against capability, compared to costs; and continually make recommendations to stretch our technology dollars further. This position is key in budgeting and forecasting associated with the collaboration product set.
The incumbent is expected to stay abreast of business needs/changes, along with emerging trends, techniques, or solutions pertaining to the collaboration technology space. It is expected that the Productivity Technologies Manager is strategic, someone who can look ahead and create long range vision, strategies, roadmaps, and plans. When business needs arise for new capabilities or unplanned demand the Productivity Technologies Manager is expected to respond quickly and effectively. This requires continuously evaluation of demand and reprioritization of work based on ever changing business dynamics.
The position must also develop and maintain strong relationships with key technology managers within the Workplace Solutions, Infrastructure, Security, and Compliance. Collaboration tools include file sharing components that require a cross-functional partnership to manage. This position works especially closely with the Messaging and Conferencing Manager. Developing and maintaining a strong cross functional team across Messaging and Productivity is crucial.
Managing our vendor or supplier partners is a vital element of the Productivity Technologies Manager role. Negotiating best pricing, along with holding our supplier partners accountable for delivering quality solutions, based on committed timeframes is something that requires a constant focus.
For Southern Company to maximize the benefits from our technology spend, it is vital that our business partners are knowledgeable and informed on the effective use of the technology they utilize. The Productivity Technologies Manager is responsible for providing education to business partners across Southern Company on how to use their technology, and to provide instructions to other partner groups, such as the Workplace Support teams on how to support the technology.
The Productivity Technologies Manager is responsible for attracting, developing, retaining, & managing a diverse group of technical individual contributors. In this role, the incumbent has responsibility for hiring, performance management, and terminations and for providing daily work direction, feedback and coaching to their direct reports. They are also responsible for workforce planning for their organization and for appropriately identifying and developing successors for key roles within their team.
Expense and budgetary oversight is a vital element of the position. The incumbent is directly responsible for managing a departmental budget and software spending of $10M annually. This role also either highly influences or controls technology spend that is applied directly to the business units' budget. In addition to departmental and asset budgets, the Productivity Technologies Manager is expected to ensure financial accountability for any project work under the department's sponsorship.

In the Spring of 2021, we embarked upon a data management journey with PowerSecure (https://powersecure.com/). Commissioning data management tools native to or built within our Azure tenant in the Microsoft Cloud. Development and Execution of a strategic data governance process
Driving the evolution and improvement of decision making through new methods and technologies
Facilitate and enhance an information driven decision-making culture
Supporting internal and external customers through data driven solutions
Execution of training and programs for data literacy throughout organization
JOB DESCRIPTION
This position is responsible for understanding issues and providing data related solutions through collecting, cleaning, analyzing, interpreting and presenting data in order to answer questions, support findings and solve problems.
Responsibilities also include designing technical solutions to automate business processes and build automations as well as creating and executing tests to evaluate functional and non-functional performance of solutions. Developing an understanding current data state, workflows and processes and developing solutions for integrations, transformations, and deliverables will also be key focus areas of the position. This will include data analysis and data visualization to meet internal (internal auditors) and external (business unit leaders) customers' requirements.
MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Business Acumen:
Work with the Technology Organization (TO) to obtain and organize data
Assist management in decision making supported by data analytics to improve processes and communicate results
Support auditors in the design and execution of tests to ensure processes are followed correctly
Analyze and interpret data to identify process gaps.
Leverage data visualization to communicate results in an efficient and effective manner
Work with various stakeholders to communicate and implement process improvements.
Analyze and visually communicate financial and non-financial data to help drive business decisions
Proactively review trends to understand and communicate macro and enterprise level risks.
Design technical solutions to automate business processes and build automations
Create and execute tests to evaluate functional and non-functional performance of solutions
Document and update solution designs throughout the automation life cycle
Partner with Technology Organization to maintain code and troubleshoot and resolve incidents in the production environment
Collaborate with a business to work directly with clients to define requirements, explore solutions, and assess the technical feasibility of RPA for the given problem
Meet with customers to gather additional requirements detail or resolve incidents in production
Adhere to best practices and participate in team meetings to further mature standards and practices of the development team
Provide feedback to other developers by performing reviews and technical design reviews
Evaluate change requests to determine approach and level of effort and communicate it back to either the team or customer
Engagement:
Ensure tasks and deliverables are completed on time
Lead team efforts to identify solutions to resolve known issues
Build and sustain relationships with stakeholders across all levels of the company

Job Summary
This posting is for a Protection & Control Field Services Engineer, Engineering Associate, or Technician position based in the Brunswick, Ga Transmission Maintenance Centers. This position will be filled as a Non-Exempt position in the Protection & Control Field Services Engineer/Technician family, with the pay and level commensurate with the qualifications, education, and experience of the successful candidate.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the Protection & Control (P&C) Field Services activities in the Brunswick Transmission Maintenance area. Safety and Quality are paramount in this position. The successful candidate will be expected to learn and apply switching procedures and safety measures. The candidate will be expected to plan and complete projects safely, efficiently, on schedule, and without service interruptions.

JOB REQUIREMENTS (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills)
Education Requirements
4-year Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, or
4-year BS Degree in Engineering Technology, or
Professional Engineering License, or

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND BEHAVIORAL ATTRIBUTES
Job Responsibilities
Commissioning, testing, maintaining, and troubleshooting protective relaying, controls, and communication equipment associated with substation and transmission power lines.
Complete construction projects and substation routines as assigned, ensuring they are completed without service interruptions. This includes managing clearances effectively to meet quality, schedule, and budget targets.
Coordinating substation outages and commissioning activities with multiple internal and external stakeholders. Handle trouble calls as needed.
Develop and use safe and efficient work practices to prevent safety and operational incidents. Follow formal written requirements. Conduct job briefings to identify and mitigate safety and operational risks.
Develop and share technical expertise in 3-phase power, relaying, SCADA, and substation testing techniques with others through daily work.
Isolate hazards and damaged equipment during emergencies to restore service safely and efficiently

JOB SUMMARY
This position will be required to handle all of the day-to-day engineering work activities in an assigned area. Responsibilities include service design, estimating, and coordinating construction for multiple overhead and underground residential, new business and other construction projects. Candidate must provide superior customer service and be able to prepare and schedule construction of jobs to meet committed service dates. Candidate will write and execute switching orders to effectively maintain, operate, and assist in the distribution planning of the system for reliability. In addition, the candidate will be responsible for processing all documentation in accordance with Compliance requirements. Other duties will include handling customer inquiries (voltage complaints, claims, etc.) and assisting with Distribution compliance and asset management programs. Candidate will also participate in the on-call trouble supervision rotation and must be available after business hours for local, out-of-town, and out-of-state trouble and storm restoration.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience for an Engineer or Engineering Associate position:
Preferred - Not Required
2-year accredited degree OR
4-year accredited degree in a non-technical field, OR
EUT Certificate
Distribution and or related Engineering experience with a power utility company is a plus
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Proficient with MS office products and other related engineering Software systems highly desired
Strong Technical Engineering Skills and understanding of Power Systems are highly desired
Candidate should possess knowledge of general engineering and construction principles
Knowledge of electrical system operations, distribution systems, underground and overhead construction practices
Prior experience in writing and executing switching orders preferred
Working knowledge of ARMS, JETS/JETS Scheduling, Designer/GIS, CSS, Socket, DistView, TCMS Web, NJUNS,
EDEN, and DisIntel preferred

POSITION SUMMARY
This position supports the Data Acquisition and Real Time Systems group within the Technical Services I&C Systems and Field Support Organization of T&PS. This position will focus on supporting generation plants for data acquisition and connectivity duties. This role will perform duties including data acquisition interface installations, data diode implementations, patching and management of data acquisition equipment, business ownership of application used for management of change cases, and onsite work at plant sites focusing on data acquisition.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Understand the Generation Data Acquisition principles that apply to all Generation facilities.
Perform data acquisition interface installations, configuration, and troubleshooting for Plant State Suite (PSS) alarm management.
Perform data acquisition interface installations, configuration, and troubleshooting for Aspen IP.21 (OIS) and OSISoft PI plant historians.
Perform work on data diode systems including installations, configuration, and troubleshooting for all protocols to secure outbound data communications.
Perform work on SEL data aggregators to enable relay to DCS communications.
Perform troubleshooting for data acquisition problems using network skills.
Read single line drawings and network diagrams related to data acquisition.
Perform redlines of drawings, single line diagrams, and network diagrams.
Develop and maintain technical documentation such as reports, network diagrams, etc.
Participate on project teams as needed to implement data acquisition tasks.
Perform password changes, patching, and AV updates on data acquisition equipment.
Assist generation sites as part of a 24/7 on-call rotation.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience:
