We are currently seeking a talented Trial Attorney - Property for our Plantation/Fort Lauderdale, South Florida Staff Counsel location.

The actual days onsite are settled between each employee and the employee's manager.
In this position you will provide legal representation to USAA members, insured clients and USAA entities in all phases of civil litigation and legal proceedings pertaining to covered losses. Exercises independent legal discretion and judgment to fully defend all clients.

Job Requirements
Identify and manage existing and emerging risks that stem from business activities and the job role.
Ensure risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled.
Follow written risk and compliance policies, standards, and procedures for business activities.
Independently manages caseload of simple to moderate Property and Casualty insurance defense cases through arbitration, trial, and possible appeal for clients on cases assigned.
May handle and/or assist with complex litigation cases.
Appears in court as required, including arbitrations, trials, and mediations.
Provides legal advice to clients and P&C Claims team members. Develops, and implements legal strategy and ongoing budget projections to Claims Litigation, and clients, as appropriate on assigned cases.
Prepares legal pleadings, motions, statements, memoranda, trial briefs and other legal documents on assigned cases.
Conducts direct settlement negotiations with plaintiffs' attorneys.
Stays current on all relevant statutes, case law, office, and trial-related technology. Attends courses as assigned to maintain appropriate skill sets for trial.
Provides training to support staff, P&C Claims and Claims Litigation regarding changes in law, litigation and/or and other processes.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited school.
Juris Doctor degree from an American Bar Association (ABA) accredited law school required.
6 years of experience practicing law handling personal injury or civil litigation or trial cases.
Licensed to practice law in the jurisdiction(s) served.
Experience practicing law in the court systems within the geographic area being served.
Ability to perform online legal research.
Excellent communication and presentation skills.
Preferred Experience:
Six plus years defense counsel experience handling Property Damage cases.
Heavy trial experience, including verdicts, in the Courts of Florida working for staff counsel
Experience preparing reports and memos for Claims including initial case analysis, discovery and deposition reports, and Pre-trail reports and strategy.

8 years of experience supporting risk and/or compliance related activities in a financial services operating environment or other relevant industry; OR 8 years of experience in a relevant quantitative discipline; OR Advanced degree or designation in a risk management or quantitative discipline, and 6 years of experience supporting risk and/or compliance related activities; OR PhD in a risk management or quantitative discipline, and 4 years of experience supporting risk and/or compliance related activities.
3 years of direct team lead or people management experience.
Knowledge of federal laws, rules, regulations, and applicable guidance to include: GLBA, BSA/AML, REG W, FRA 23A&B/TPRM, OCC Heightened Standards, HOLA.
Preferred experience:
Strong leadership and presentation skills with the ability to comfortably interface with multiple levels of management
Strong ability to collaborate to gain alignment/acceptance with various information technology resources and business leadership
Strong experience reviewing, identifying gaps, and providing guidance related to Business Application Controls and Information Technology General Controls (ITGC)
Knowledge of internal controls, business and information technology risks and/or risk and controls testing techniques in a large financial services organization
In depth knowledge of industry frameworks/standards utilized for IT internal controls (COBIT, ITIL, NIST CSF, ISO, PCI-DSS etc.)
6+ years of experience in large financial services IT/Security internal audit department, or equivalent IT/Security audit or consulting experience
Experience working in a highly regulated environment, and reviewing work product with external regulators
Preferred designations include CISA (Certified Information Systems Auditor), CISSP (Certified Information Security Systems Professional), or other relevant business designations
