  • Keeps current with trends, literature, and new developments in ecology and environmental science as it relates to their specific technical area of proficiency.

  • Assists team in the production of project deliverables.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, Archeology, Anthropology, or related field

  • Coordination with other transit systems disciplines (traction power, track, rail vehicles, communications, central control) to ensure a complete, integrated transit system is successfully designed, integrated and operational

  • Evaluation of existing signaling systems and recommendations for rehabilitation or replacement

  • Vital and non-vital, relay and PLC, field and signal room, including relay logic, microprocessors, track circuits, switch machines, and impedance bonds

  • Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) systems implementation

  • All aspects of the project life cycle including surveying, evaluation, recommendation, design, design support during construction, integration, testing, certification and close-out.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • Master's degree in Engineering

  • 8 years relevant experience

  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification

This position can be located at many HNTB office locations including, but not limited to, Washington, DC; New York, NY; Oakland, CA; San Diego, CA; and Los Angeles, CA.

Responsible for technical input within one or more specific practice areas in Advisory. This position acts as a consultant in their area of expertise by providing strategic analysis to key clients to ensure successful project and program delivery and client satisfaction. This position supports senior Advisory team members to develop and promote subject matter expertise and best practices in targeted practice areas (strategic, financial, commercial, technical advising), with a specific focus on complex programs and innovative delivery.

Primary Focus May Include:

  • Strategic Advising - Provide as needed management consulting to top client leadership. Tasks can range from providing advice or approaches on specific issues, creating structure and workplans around program obstacles, and developing strategies for improving team or program performance.

  • Key Issue Resolution - Evaluate, define, and structure solutions to key program risks / issues by interfacing with clients, program staff and other consultants. Involvement can range from distilling technical information and key considerations, to strategizing with clients on multi-disciplinary problem solving, to driving a cross-collaborative working group to develop a solution or deliverable.

  • Procurement documents and third party agreement review - Review, revise and, if applicable, draft sections of procurement documents and third party agreements related to projects on which Advisory is engaged (will focus on P3s and other innovative delivery methods, including collaborative contracting - progressive P3 and DB, CMGC, CMAR etc.).

  • Federal Policy and Communications Support - Support ongoing federal policy, communications and government relations work as requested by clients in collaboration with HNTB experts and other consultants. Tasks may include developing strategy documents, workplans, tracking progress and managing deliverables, chairing working sessions to align on strategies or messaging, or developing key internal or public facing presentations or documents.

  • Administrative - Support HNTB team efforts on project management tasks (develop scopes of work, budgets and schedules) and other support functions related to Advisory assignments, as necessary.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • Majority of work experience in a directly relevant role, including specialized knowledge and strong experience applicable to the relevant practice groups within Advisory (Executive Owners Representative, Innovative Delivery, Program Management or Strategy & Transformation)

  • Broad knowledge of the infrastructure industry, key players, policies, existing programs, and precedent transactions

  • Strong professional connections across the infrastructure industry, well known and respected by industry peers, active in industry organizations

  • Excellent communications, writing, quantitative skills

  • Professional demeanor, able to independently interface with senior client leaders

  • Strategic thinker, able to see the broader picture beyond their assigned role and identify and advance opportunities to enhance service offerings

  • Possesses subject matter expertise (legal, financial, commercial, technical)

  • Deep understanding of consulting business and key value drivers for HNTB

What You'll Need

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Applies technical expertise and guidance in area of practice, including law, finance, public policy, engineering, program management, and management consulting. Acts as subject matter expert to provide strategic advice and analysis, and engage in marketing and business development, as well as preparing reports and presentations to HNTB leadership and senior client personnel.

  • Assists with the successful contracting and execution of projects, working closely with regional HNTB staff and office leadership. Supports tasks and major workstreams, interfaces with senior Advisory and client leadership to ensure 4for4 delivery while managing client relationships and day to day interactions with appropriate counterparts.

  • Prepares technical materials for client engagements, including strategic analyses, commercial documentation, technical provisions, procurement documents, and other materials pertaining to applicable subject matter focus.

  • Trains and instructs line personnel on innovative delivery and other Advisory disciplines. Advises on business planning and supports marketing efforts of the line organization.

  • Works with the line organization in a senior support role on strategically important client and project pursuits, providing strategic input and market knowledge to expand service offerings and enhance win probabilities.

  • Mentors and oversees the work of junior Advisory staff through performance management and encouragement of professional development opportunities.

  • Contributes to strategic planning for Advisory and assists with thought leadership initiatives.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field and 10 years of relevant experience.

  • Master's degree in relevant field and 8 years of relevant experience.

  • PhD/JD in relevant field and 6 years of relevant experience.
