Come join our Elevator Support Unit (ESU)! The position will support contracted skilled trades work on Weapon Elevators and Aircraft Elevators and their systems on U.S. Navy ships. The selected candidate will support ESU by performing a variety of skilled trades, maintenance, and technical tasks on aircraft carrier elevators, cargo handling systems and associated equipment, including aircraft elevators, weapons elevators, and vertical stores conveyors. Selected candidate will work closely with higher level employee in specialized assignments. May train/assist other employees/navy personal on shipboard systems and day-to-day operation. Work includes daily activities of physical labor in an industrial and shipboard environment. Your accomplishments will make a positive impact supporting the U.S. Navy and America's national defense! Travel within and outside of the continental United States may be required.

What You Will Do

  • Master understanding of production and processes.

  • Responsible for interfacing with customers, managing subcontractors and ability to provide work direction to others.

  • May provide direction and lead others. May manage one or more multiple jobs. Completes comprehension of specialty trades functions and tools.

  • Performs a variety of complicated and non-routine tasks.

  • Develops and uses technical documents including controlled work packages, formal work processes and procedures, test documents, reports and task or trip reports.

  • Schedules, reports and briefs customers and senior management.

  • May perform quality inspections on finished product. Performs duties outside of specialty in order to complete installation or work assignment.

  • Must have High School education, or Trade School or equivalent, and 6 years of related experience.

  • Must provide own hand tools as designated per trades specialty.

  • Must have experience performing troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and testing of electrical systems.

  • Must be proficient in reading electrical drawings and schematics.

  • Must have experience conducting on-site installation of equipment while following established safety, qualify control & testing procedures.

  • Must be able to calibrate and make minor repairs on tools/equipment.

  • Must be able to obtain/maintain base access credentials.

The Role

Deck electricians are largely responsible for the installation, repair, overhaul, and operational testing of the electrical systems aboard the ship. Electricians can be working on one of the many electrical systems aboard the ship including lighting, power distribution, communication or navigation. Electricians read and interpret complex electrical and electronic schematics. The job of an electrician is unique in that it requires an individual that can quickly switch between differing tasks ranging from lighting and receptacle hook-ups, installing wire way racks, rebuilding equipment, installing electronic controls, lighting maintenance, performing preventative maintenance, or welding of studs for mounting equipment.

The Role

Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries, is offering a $500 sign-on bonus to Deck Electric Trainee new hires. The Role

Scrap metal handler will sort and prepare metals for recycling and re-sale. Daily use of tools such as torches and saws to cut up the scrap products. Daily operation of fork lifts and front end loaders throughout scrap yard to stage material/scrap. Occassional operation of gentry crane for moving large, heavy items. All work perfomed in outside sitting of scrap yard.

Must Have

The Role

Develops, analyzes, researches, and designs welding and NDT techniques, procedures, and applications. Uses engineering principles to manipulate and inspect materials for fabrication and assembly processes. Prepares technical documentation in order to implement waterfront welding and NDT processes including specifications, analyses, standards, and restrictions. Creates new or modifies current NDT and welding methods, techniques, and procedures in order to substantiate welding theories.

This position will be responsible for evaluating nondestructive technologies currently not utilized in the shipyard. Promising technologies will be investigated and business cases would be developed to pursue funding through the submarine industrial base as well as other funding sources. This position will then layout detailed development scheduled and funding profiles utilizing gate reviews to ensure program objects and costs are being met. Project will include evaluating and purchasing equipment, fabricating mock-ups for calibration, demonstration the technology, developing procedures, developing training and implementation in shops and on the deck plate. Position will be responsible for managing each project to ensure schedule and budget requirements are met. The position will provide technical direction and leadership to other welding engineers within the department.

Must Have

Bachelor's Degree and 9 years of relevant exempt experience or

Master's Degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience or

Ph.D. and 4 years of experience.

Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Nice to Have

Welding, materials or mechanical engineering with prior experience with technology innovation project management. Ideal candidate would have experience with computed radiography and/or phased array ultrasonic inspection of welds. Knowledge of the additive manufacturing process. Experience in leading technology development from initial evaluation through deployment in production. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with management and our customer. Demonstrated project management experience including managing costs, schedules and deliverables.

Basic Qualifications

Summary

This position supports the HII-NNS San Diego CVN Project Office by planning and coordinating production related work supporting the maintenance and modernization of aircraft carriers in San Diego, California.

This Lead Superintendent will report to the HII-NNS San Diego Program Manager for all aspects in ship repair and modernization. Defines work objectives and maintains routine contact to communicate overall work status and specific production problems, which could negatively affect schedules. Assists the HII-NNS Program Manager with day-to-day operations of aircraft carrier maintenance and modernization planning and execution in support. Provides technical advice and leadership to the Project Team.

What You Will Do

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Ensures a safe and healthy work environment in compliance with the applicable local and federal regulations.

  • Plans and reviews schedules to establish priorities for work activities in support of CVN projects.

  • Identifying potential project level risks to schedule or technical criteria

  • Identifying and implementing Risk Mitigation plans.

  • Engaging with customers (SWRMC, US Navy, CNAF, and PSNSY) in meetings and discussions to discuss ongoing work, coordination, and issues.

What You Must Have

  • 8 years relevant progressive experience with Bachelors in related field; 6 years relevant progressive experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 12 years relevant progressive experience.

  • Must have experience supporting NNS on recent CVN Projects in San Diego, CA gaining a full understanding of CVN maintenance operations.

  • Must have working knowledge of NNS processes.

  • Experience to Lead Planning and execution of a CVN Planned Incremental Availability with over 200 individual work items over a six month period supervising, assigning, coordinating and evaluating direct reports in semi-skilled and skilled trades as well as vendors.

  • Generating work assignments according to personnel's skill, experience, and job knowledge as well as efficiency on the job.

  • Managing and training employees to improve quality and quantity of work performed to meet or exceed standards.

  • Recommending training to enhance skill and productivity of staff and assisting in developing training procedures.

  • Reducing broad strategies down to practical action plans and ensuring employees are trained to perform those plans.

  • Complying with all technical aspects of the job including adherence to all drawings, procedures, and safety standards.

  • Overseeing manufacturing, installation, operation, testing, and processes that have a significant financial impact.

  • Monitoring job and budget performance for all projects as well as assuring deadlines and specifications are maintained.

  • Scheduling and overseeing checkpoints ensuring that preliminary checks were accomplished and documentation completed.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Ensure all personnel being escorted within the site are abiding by all security requirements and report security concerns to the Site Security Manager (SSM) immediately.

  • Ensure that only authorized personnel, vehicles, and/or materials are introduced into or onto the construction site.

  • Required to traverse in and around the construction area during duty hours.

  • Subjected to loud noises, dust/debris, and will navigate multiple stairwells.

  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided by the Government.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Five (5) years security experience required.

  • Required to have a current Secret National Agency Check (NAC) clearance.

Summary

This position supports the HII-NNS San Diego CVN Project Office by planning and coordinating production related work supporting the maintenance and modernization of aircraft carriers in San Diego, California.

This Lead Superintendent will report to the HII-NNS San Diego Program Manager for all aspects in ship repair and modernization. Defines work objectives and maintains routine contact to communicate overall work status and specific production problems, which could negatively affect schedules. Assists the HII-NNS Program Manager with day-to-day operations of aircraft carrier maintenance and modernization planning and execution in support. Provides technical advice and leadership to the Project Team.

Summary

This position supports the HII-NNS San Diego CVN Project Office by planning and coordinating production related work supporting the maintenance and modernization of aircraft carriers in San Diego, California.

This Lead Superintendent will report to the HII-NNS San Diego Program Manager for all aspects in ship repair and modernization. Defines work objectives and maintains routine contact to communicate overall work status and specific production problems, which could negatively affect schedules. Assists the HII-NNS Program Manager with day-to-day operations of aircraft carrier maintenance and modernization planning and execution in support. Provides technical advice and leadership to the Project Team.

What You Will Do

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Ensures a safe and healthy work environment in compliance with the applicable local and federal regulations.

  • Plans and reviews schedules to establish priorities for work activities in support of CVN projects.

  • Identifying potential project level risks to schedule or technical criteria

  • Identifying and implementing Risk Mitigation plans.

  • Engaging with customers (SWRMC, US Navy, CNAF, and PSNSY) in meetings and discussions to discuss ongoing work, coordination, and issues.

What You Must Have

  • 8 years relevant progressive experience with Bachelors in related field; 6 years relevant progressive experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 12 years relevant progressive experience.

  • Must have experience supporting NNS on recent CVN Projects in San Diego, CA gaining a full understanding of CVN maintenance operations.

  • Must have working knowledge of NNS processes.

  • Experience to Lead Planning and execution of a CVN Planned Incremental Availability with over 200 individual work items over a six month period supervising, assigning, coordinating and evaluating direct reports in semi-skilled and skilled trades as well as vendors.

  • Generating work assignments according to personnel's skill, experience, and job knowledge as well as efficiency on the job.

  • Managing and training employees to improve quality and quantity of work performed to meet or exceed standards.

  • Recommending training to enhance skill and productivity of staff and assisting in developing training procedures.

  • Reducing broad strategies down to practical action plans and ensuring employees are trained to perform those plans.

  • Complying with all technical aspects of the job including adherence to all drawings, procedures, and safety standards.

  • Overseeing manufacturing, installation, operation, testing, and processes that have a significant financial impact.

  • Monitoring job and budget performance for all projects as well as assuring deadlines and specifications are maintained.

  • Scheduling and overseeing checkpoints ensuring that preliminary checks were accomplished and documentation completed.

HII-Mission Technologies (HII-MT) is seeking a Senior Principal Military Analyst to support United States Indo-Pacific Command (USINDOPACOM) operations in Honolulu, HI. Specifically, the candidate will lead the Operational Research Team in executing quantitative and qualitative operational research to identify potential improvements to U.S. plans and policies. The candidate will lead the team in developing realistic operational scenarios, supporting high-fidelity, campaign-level modeling and simulation (M&S), leading seminars with subject matter experts and military planners, utilizing various analytical methods to produce in-depth findings, and presenting these findings to high-level stakeholders.

What You Will Do:

The candidate will lead the Operational Research Team in performing a wide range of tasks leading , including:

  • Engage with the Indo-Pacific planning community to determine research focus

  • Design research using the Scientific Method

  • Develop realistic operational scenarios on which to base research

  • Support and utilize quantitative research by M&S subject matter experts

  • Conduct qualitative research using the Socratic Method with a variety of subject matter experts

  • Conduct analyses to identify potential improvements in U.S. plans and policies

  • Present findings to a variety of planners and senior leaders

What We're Looking For:
