About the Director of Nursing Position

As Director of Nursing at Brookdale, you will utilize your leadership qualities to inspire, lead and manage the overall operation of the clinical team to provide the highest quality of care and services for our residents. You will proactively build relationships with residents, families, physicians and other healthcare providers for the coordination of exceptional personalized care. You will consistently collaborate with community leadership, mentor and engage your associates and build resident and family satisfaction.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Education as required to obtain state nursing license and state nursing license (LPN/LVN or RN)

Responsibilities

Manages the day-to-day clinical services of a more complex community to ensure residents' healthcare needs are met. Ensures residents are treated with respect and dignity and ensures quality care as residents' healthcare needs change. Supervises and provides leadership, as well as coaching, to licensed nurses and other direct care staff within the community. May be responsible for leading additional clinical leadership team up to five members. The HWD level for each community is determined based on the total complexity of the role. Complexity criteria include, but are not limited to, factors such as size, type of product lines, medication management regulations, 90-day assessment requirements, multiple licensure requirements, state regulatory complexity, and skilled services requiring an RN.

Salary Range Information

$72,030.00 - $93,700.00 / year

Responsibilities

Directs food service operations within the community including all food preparation, dining room operations and dining delivery services. Purchases all food and manages inventory ensuring effective cost controls and vendor service and quality. Ensures the highest nutrition and food quality for the health and pleasure of the residents. Complies with all federal, state and local regulations to ensure sanitary and safe operations. Plans and executes entertaining dining events and themes in conjunction with Activities Director, Marketing Director and other administrative staff to optimize the life and pleasure of the residents. May also cater events as requested by residents or staff.

  • Hires, trains and manages all supervisory staff for the kitchen, dining room, catering and delivery services. Ensures that supervisors maintain a safe and sanitary environment and provide a caring and pleasurable dining experience for the residents. Coaches supervisors in maintaining appropriate staffing levels and effectively motivating, disciplining and training associates.

  • Consults with chefs and cooks to develop and maintain pleasing and nutritious menus. Assesses and determines the desires and preferences of the residents regarding food selection and presentation through surveys and daily contact with residents. Ensures preferences are incorporated into the menu and events. Understands the dietary needs of residents and coordinates with dieticians, nursing staff, and care associates to ensure proper selection, preparation and delivery of meals.

  • Develops department budget including purchasing and staffing expenditures. Approves food orders from company or selected food vendors and ensures a proper level of inventory to meet demand and minimize cost and waste. Routinely monitors budget compliance and recommends changes as needed to maintain operational quality and resident satisfaction.

  • Encourages the identification of enjoyable ways to encourage socialization and enjoyment of residents through the use of food presentation and events. Improves the dcor and condition of dining rooms to ensure a safe and pleasant experience.

  • Networks with Regional Food Service Directors to improve operations, reduce costs and to obtain new program ideas for creative operations.

Qualifications

Education and ExperienceCollege degree in food service or hospitality management is preferred. A minimum of eight years of progressive experience in the food service industry including at least three of those years in a responsible supervisory role of others preparing food and servicing customers. Experience to include management of food inventories and budgets.

Certifications, Licenses, and Other Special RequirementsCurrent ServSafe Certification required. Obtain/hold any local, state and/or county required food handling/sanitation licenses and/or certificates.

Management/Decision MakingApplies existing guidelines and procedures to make varied decisions within a department. Uses sound judgment and experience to solve moderately complex problems based on precedent, example, reasonableness or a combination of these. Ability to manage a large number of associates directly and through other supervisors to create a productive and motivated department.

Knowledge and SkillsPossesses extensive knowledge of a distinct skill or function and a thorough understanding of the organization and work environment. Has working knowledge of a functional discipline. Ability to address staff, residents and visitors in a courteous and friendly manner. Ability to understand the dining and nutritional needs of residents and ability to incorporate residents' desires into the dining services operation. Extensive knowledge of food preparation and delivery. Knowledgeable of all aspects of food service positions with food and beverage background. Ability to manage a food service operation budget providing 3 meals per day, 7 days a week to large numbers of residents and visitors. Extensive knowledge of federal, state and local regulations regarding the safety of food preparation and handling. Willingness to communicate perceived physical and emotional needs of residents to other skilled staff to assist with addressing their care needs.

Responsibilities

Responsible for the maintenance and repair of the buildings and grounds to maintain proper care of the assigned community(s) in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards/regulations and company policies.

  • Directs the community maintenance, housekeeping and laundry (if applicable) staff, to include hiring, training, evaluating performance, resolving disciplinary issues and firing.

  • Directs the maintenance and upkeep of the buildings and grounds through maintenance staff. Inspects completed work for conformance to standards and policies.

  • Implements preventative maintenance programs. Coordinates compliance with local, state and federal building codes, SDS, OSHA, EPA regulations, and fire codes.

  • Coordinates engineering contractors and vendors, making sure insurance and licenses are current.

  • Conducts regular inspections of life safety systems, including fire extinguishers and sprinkler systems.

  • Coordinates annual apartment maintenance schedule and completion. Oversees necessary repairs and maintenance in apartments and common areas including refurbishment for move-ins.

  • Ensures the outside of the property is maintained, including landscaping, snow removal, and garbage/trash removal.

  • Prepares and follows approved budget. Tracks utility consumption and expense files.

  • Maintains inventory control for all general supplies, parts and equipment for necessary repairs and maintenance. Maintains all required engineering files.

  • Assesses all plumbing and electrical problems within the community and determines the best course of action to correct the problem. Works within the legal scope of local and state codes.

  • Reviews safety data sheets (SDS) as requested for potential exposure to hazardous chemicals used and take necessary precautions

  • Assess property damage and file property damage claims in accordance with company policy.

  • Responds appropriately to resident or community emergencies by assisting as needed.

  • Maintains office, shops and mechanical areas within company standards.

Responsibilities

  • Be the leader on the floor: lead caregivers serve as a resource to other staff members and may be on-call to provide staff coverage.

Responsibilities

Under general direction, manages the purchase, installation, and support of network communications, including LAN/WAN systems.

  • Conducts internal studies of network performance and traffic analysis.

  • Plans large scale system projects through vendor comparison and cost studies

  • Train/Mentor entry level Network Engineers

  • Identifies, diagnoses, and resolves connection, reliability, or performance issues.

  • Designs, configures, or upgrades local/metropolitan/wide area networks (LAN/MAN/WAN).

  • Develops configuration standards across network equipment in order to ensure integrity of the systems and service.

  • Maintains information technology inventory records of wide-area and local-area network hardware and software as well as coordination of repairs and quality control tests.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct supervision of care giving within the community. Ensures residents are treated with respect and dignity recognizing individual needs and encouraging independence. Fosters a homelike atmosphere throughout the community.

  • Provides direct supervision of resident care staff, which includes monitoring job performance, conducting associate performance evaluations, coaching and counseling associates and conducting and documenting corrective action as needed .   • Observes residents health status, takes actions to address concerns within scope of practice, and reports all significant changes, reactions to medications and treatment or significant incidences to Health and Wellness Director in a timely manner. Reviews capabilities of resident who self-administer medications on a regular basis (refer to state regulations regarding medication assistance and documentation).

  • Performs ongoing assessments of resident physical and psycho-social needs and coordinates with nurse to assure quality proactive care as allowed by state regulation and communicates to families regarding resident's personal needs and achievements. Reminds families of need for scheduled physician, dental, or eye appointments .

  • Shares on call duties as required.

  • Associates degree in health care related field and/or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Refer to state specific regulations for qualifications required to assist with medications.

  • In accordance with state law, may need to possess current state certification and follow regulations to maintain certification currency.

Responsibilities

Manages the associates responsible for the general operating maintenance and repair of the buildings and grounds to maintain proper care of the assigned community(s) in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards/regulations and company policies.

  • Supervises the community maintenance, housekeeping and laundry (if applicable) staff, to include hiring, training, evaluating performance, resolving disciplinary issues and firing.

  • Directs workers engaged in the maintenance and upkeep of the interior and exterior of the community. Inspects completed work for conformance to standards and policies.

  • Oversees scheduled maintenance on: H.V.A.C., elevator, fire and sprinkler equipment, generator, landscape, kitchen equipment, and emergency pull cord equipment.

  • Coordinates maintenance requests by residents for items needing repair in their rooms, including repairing plumbing, electrical, heating and replacing light bulbs.

  • Oversees repairs and maintenance of buildings including vacated rooms in a timely manner. This includes painting walls and cleaning carpets.

  • Ensures walls, floor coverings, doors, and woodwork in the common areas of the community are properly maintained.

  • Maintains positive communication with local fire Marshall, building inspector, state elevator inspector, and any other jurisdictions governing the community.

  • Assesses all plumbing and electrical problems within the community and determines the best course of action to correct the problem. Works within the legal scope of local and state codes.

  • Reviews safety data sheets (SDS) as requested for potential exposure to hazardous chemicals used and take necessary precautions.

  • Assess property damage and file property damage claims in accordance with company policy.

  • Responds appropriately to resident or community emergencies by assisting as needed.
