The American Heart Association has an excellent opportunity for an Associate Science and Medicine Advisor in our National Center office located in Dallas, TX (flexible work arrangements available) . The incumbent will provide technical and scientific input for American Heart Association sponsorship related grants activities. The position will work in the Science and Medicine team to fulfill the science support to grant-related initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Provide consultation, guidance, and approval review on science/clinical aspects to grant-related program initiatives, including input on public and professional programs, patient and lay publications, corporate relations and marketing materials with health and science implications and other public or professional facing activities.

  • Provide staff support to grant-related science advisory bodies and serves as the liaison to American Heart Association Councils and Science Committees

  • Work with grant-related program teams to help develop and review content for professional, public, and community-facing products and ensure content is current and accurate.

  • Provide leadership and guidance to effectively translate science and guidelines specific to sponsorship or grant to teams producing on-line and face-to-face educational programs, practice resources, and patient educational tools.

  • Serve as grant-related science/clinical representative/spokesperson, as appropriate and as needed; engage in science to science meetings with corporate relations and sponsors

  • Maintain understanding of and adherence to the Office of Science and Medicine's processes and policies to successfully execute on role

  • Maintain current CVD and stroke knowledge on the state of the science and practice in these fields to assure that the content reviewed is current and accurate.

  • Research, identify and establish opportunities to enhance AHA/ASA Office of Science knowledge base through individual or assigned involvement in scientific meetings, review of literature, consulting with clinical practitioners, and monitoring legislation or other public action.

Qualifications

  • Clinical and educational experience in the cardiovascular, neuroscience or related fields OR Master's degree in Public Health or related field required

  • Minimum of five (5) years of clinical or research experience in the cardiovascular, neuroscience or related fields.

  • Superior writing & communication skills; publication history in peer reviewed journals, preferred.

  • Ability to understand, integrate and summarize scientific literature.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with professional volunteers, staff, and the public as part of a team.

  • Demonstrated ability to simultaneously manage multiple, complex projects in varying stages of development under time constraints.

  • Proficient with standard office software packages, including basic knowledge of PC-based database applications and web browsers.

  • Must be able to travel overnight approx. 25% of the time.

The director will serve as the health lead, building strong volunteer relationships while driving the execution of health impact goals focusing in the areas of hypertension, cholesterol, diabetes, nutrition, and physical activity.

Responsibilities

Some of your responsibilities will include (but not limited to):

  • In collaboration with Executive Director and VP of Community Impact, provides vision and direction for the markets unified health efforts and actively involves, informs and integrates with internal partners across the market.

  • Drives sustainable change in the community through the adoption of Policy, Systems, Environment (PSE) changes, and through working with clinics to improve patient outcomes in blood pressure, cholesterol, and diabetes management.

  • In conjunction with community partners and focusing on eliminating health disparities, the Community Impact Director will lead the process of building or participating in convening strategies for the market. This will include assessing the community health needs in the local market and developing, coordinating and/or implementing community wide strategies that focus on eliminating health disparities through proven-effective policies, systems, and environmental change approaches.

  • Helps build a network of volunteers and identifies appropriate internal and external partners to drive meaningful engagement to advance the American Heart Association priorities and drive toward equitable health and wellbeing in the community.

  • Collaborate with development staff and volunteers to identify, cultivate and secure program funding, including sponsorships and in-kind for relevant programs, campaigns and health impact opportunities.

Works cross-functionally within the organization to identify opportunities for collaboration and synergies to most effectively execute American Heart Association priority initiatives. Engage with healthcare providers to ensure best practices and quality improvement for treatment of patients through initiatives including but not limited to: Target: BP, Check. Change. Control. Cholesterol, and Know Diabetes By Heart.

  • Bachelor's degree in public health, marketing, public relations and/or community programs, or equivalent work experience in health-related field preferred.

  • Provide consultation, guidance, and approval review on science/clinical aspects to grant-related program initiatives, including input on public and professional programs, patient and lay publications, corporate relations and marketing materials with health and science implications and other public or professional facing activities.

  • Provide staff support to grant-related science advisory bodies and serves as the liaison to the American Heart Association Council and Science Committees

  • Work with grant-related program team to help develop and review content for professional, public, and community-facing products and ensures content is current and accurate.

  • Provides leadership and guidance to effectively translate science and guidelines specific to the sponsorship or grant to teams producing on-line and face-to-face educational programs, practice resources, and patient educational tool.

  • Serves as grant-related science/clinical representative/spokesperson, as appropriate and as needed; engages in science-science meetings with corporate relations and sponsors

  • Maintains understanding of and adherence to the Office of Science and Medicine's processes and policies to successfully execute on role

  • Researches, identifies and establishes opportunities to enhance American Heart Association /ASA Office of Science knowledge base through individual or assigned involvement in scientific meetings, review of literature, consulting with clinical practitioners, and monitoring legislation or other public action.

Qualifications

  • Clinical and educational experience in the cardiovascular, neuroscience or related fields OR Master's degree in Public Health or related field required

  • Minimum of five (5) years of clinical or research experience in the cardiovascular, neuroscience or related fields.

  • Superior writing & communication skills; publication history in peer revewed journals, preferred.

  • Ability to understand, integrate and summarize scientific literature.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with professional volunteers, staff, and the public as part of a team.

  • Demonstrated ability to simultaneously manage multiple, complex projects in varying stages of development under time constraints.

  • Proficient with standard office software packages, including basic knowledge of PC-based database applications and web browsers.

  • Must be able to travel overnight approx. 25% of the time.
