We are currently hiring for a Communications Director in our Wichita location. The Director sets and executes communications strategy to promote AHA health and development priorities in Wichita KS, Springfield & Joplin MO including earned media, social media, paid media, PSAs, messaging and storytelling. This person will serve as ambassador for AHA brand working closely with external volunteers, media, donors, sponsors and the general public. Responsibilities
Develop and execute market communications plans that promote the AHA's mission and local health and development priorities. Tactics can include earned media, message development, PSAs, social media, paid ads, oversight of video production, etc.
Set & execute silent and live auction procurement for Go Red for Women & Heart Ball.
Create lasting relationships with media companies by building powerful partnerships.
Develop and implement social media strategies to educate and raise awareness of AHA's mission by following branding guidelines.
Lead creation of market messaging for events, issues and including talking points, event scripts, run of show for major events, social media, media materials, ads, etc. This includes recruiting, engaging and training local volunteers to serve as AHA spokespeople in traditional, non-traditional and social media.
Work collaboratively with the market executive director and other key market staff to develop integrated approaches to local market sponsorships. Actively identify and lead local communications activation opportunities for top sponsors.
Negotiate media sponsorships, which includes PSAs, emcees, social media messaging and other collaborative opportunities. Place national PSAs as appropriate.
Qualifications
2+ years of experience in public relations communications, public relations, marketing, or journalism. This experience may also count towards satisfying this position's educational requirement. Nonprofit experience preferred.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in communications, public relations, journalism or related field preferred.
Knowledge of media and communications principles, ethics, practices and techniques, including technical requirements.
Solid understanding of news media operations and news gathering.
Ability to create and maintain key contacts within the media.
Ability to recruit, organize, train, lead volunteers as well as ability to accomplish goals through them.
Exceptional skill in written and oral communications
Ability to do daily travel up to 40%.
Must have at least basic knowledge and skill with Microsoft Office used for word processing, email, presentations, and spreadsheets. Advanced knowledge and skill with these programs is preferred. These skills are subject to testing.
Ability to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.

This position is responsible for duties associated with supporting development team members in their fundraising efforts. Duties include handling data in several event management systems related to leadership, donations and event logistics, handling event planning with vendors and volunteers, processing payments in the financial systems and collaborating with colleagues and departments on a variety of other important tasks that advance our mission.
This is an office-based position which will require occasional travel to events and meetings including overnight travel within the Eastern States region (primarily Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Westchester NY).

Help the American Heart Association maintain the trust of our volunteers, donors, and the public at large by ensuring adherence to accounting guidelines and processes regarding donation and payment processing.
Research customer discrepancies and past-due amounts with the assistance of the Staff Accountant and other team members
Comply with American Heart Association Funds Handling and PCI Procedures for checks, cash, and credit card transactions
Process, Monitor and Report on Data
Data is central to the success of the organization this position has the important responsibility of entering, maintaining, and reporting on critical data including donor information, donor payments, event, and prospect details.
General data entry in AHA data management systems (Microsoft Dynamics, Luminate, Greater Giving, Event.Gives)
Processing all event and campaign related data, ensuring accurate record-keeping and monthly reconciliations
Monitoring data for completeness and accuracy. Correcting irregularities as needed
Generating reports as needed
Event Logistics
Whether planning a donor reception, a Heart Walk or a Gala experience, the Development Coordinator is responsible for helping to plan and execute a variety of events which will appeal to both current and potential donors. Duties include:
Preparing ADA compliant digital event communications for save the dates, invitations, event logistics, event programs, and other marketing materials as needed in coordination with AHA marketing and communications professionals using AHA design templates and branding guidelines.
Coordinating logistical aspects of events such as:
Securing and planning details with vendors for venues, catering, entertainment, AV and staging etc. and ensuring proper AHA legal review and approval
Implementing all AHA risk reduction procedures
Recruiting, scheduling, and training volunteers to assist with projects and events to ensure a positive experience.
Attending in-person events to help with set up, execution and tear down (COVID 19 restrictions permitting)
Acting as a point of contact for vendors, supporters, sponsors, volunteers, and attendees
Possible involvement in virtual event production including coordinating event content, creating multi-media presentations, and providing technical support for digital experiences.
Support Services
The Coordinator is a key element in supporting a cohesive, efficient, and productive workplace.
Meeting regularly with directors and volunteers to maintain open lines of communication to ensure objectives are being achieved.
Maintaining a high level of service by responding to customer inquiries both internally and externally in a knowledgeable and timely manner
Performing other duties as assigned by supervisor
Assisting in the coordination and execution of leadership and board meetings
Preparing presentations, correspondence and documentation in a timely manner including meeting minutes

Qualifications

Demonstrated ability to work on multiple tasks concurrently.
Must have at least intermediate knowledge and skill with Microsoft Office 2010 used for word processing, email, presentations, and spreadsheets. Advanced knowledge and skill with these programs are preferred. These skills are subject to testing.
Ability to objectively evaluate, make effective decisions and develop alternative solutions.
Ability to work in a team environment and interact with all levels of American Heart Association staff, volunteers and the public. This also includes the ability to work collaboratively with others to use resources to achieve common goals.

Essential Job Duties:
Leads all aspects of advance registration and reservation processes and serves as liaison with vendors to provide a user-friendly process for registrants. Establishes timelines, processes and scopes of work for registration and housing programs for all assigned conferences.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in marketing, Communications, or related area
Two years of experience in marketing, communications, or promotional campaign development
One year of project management experience, including managing multiple projects concurrently
Shown success in crafting marketing or promotion plans
Strong analytical skills with a shown ability to apply trend analysis, research, and other sources to turn data and information into actionable information
Proficient digital literacy including Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint and Excel)

Development & Community Events Internship
The American Heart Association's Internship Program provides college students an opportunity for hands-on experience in various facets of fundraising, special events and implementation, volunteer management, and community outreach. It will offer experience in the use of current business and development technologies, including the use of a computer and software applications. Responsibilities include assisting with the development and implementation of fundraising activities, special events including Heart Walks, Heart & Stroke Ball, Go Red for other donor events. Additional project opportunities in community health, communications, and local board of directors.
Tasks could include things like the following:
Working within event teams on fundraising, making cold calls, communicating with volunteers and follow up
Assistance with pre-event planning, day of event execution, and event wrap-up projects related to any of the events listed above.
Develop event collateral for events including save the dates, invitations, event programs and helping with follow up calls to confirm attendance.

Minimum availability of 20 hrs/wk, M-F between the hours of 8:30am-5pm, with additional weekday evening events, and some weekend events.

Responsibilities
This individual will be responsible for developing and expanding business relationships to advance product or service offerings for an AHA educational healthcare platform. Responsible for creating strategic and tactical plans to promote revenue generating products as well as managing to client needs through lead generation and evaluation of targeted markets.
Develop and implement annual business development plan to achieve revenue and product growth goals. Conduct account planning and evaluation sessions
Analyze market opportunities, develop products/services, create go to market plans and tools
Cultivate new or existing clients to influence or expand AHA educational platform, portfolios, and services. Establish rapport to develop opportunities for AHA to meet business needs
Ensure successful negotiation and execution of complex supplier or sales agreements and contracts. Reviews or recommends solutions to legal issues in collaboration with legal department
Monitor and evaluate progress toward goals, identify goal shortfalls and develop strategies to achieve budgeted/plan goals. Create and distribute reports on outcomes and key deliverables for new business development, current clients, and prospective clients
Work to improve processes for market development. Maintain customer relationship management system. Reports on status of negotiations, sales, or customer participation
Stay current with industry knowledge, competitive analysis, and overall trends to support current and prospective clients
Develop and maintain budget for assigned projects
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
Two (2) - Five (5) years of equivalent experience
Experience in product/service business development, including sales planning, goal setting, and generating qualified leads
Experience in product/service development or brand management and growth
Experience in product pricing, budgeting, or related financial analysis
Ability to analyze market data and report on trends or impact to potential business development
Ability to formulate effective business-to-business marketing/sales plans
Ability to work independently and effectively manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
Ability to negotiate, facilitate and build business relationships
Advanced writing and presentation skills
Skills in analyzing and modeling market data
Ability to travel up to 50% local and overnight stay
Preferred Experience:
Experience healthcare, clinical care, or health technology
Experience working for a non-profit organization
