Operations Manager - GAF

We are looking for an Operations Manager who will function as a key member of the facility staff leadership team. Coordinate with other staff members to ensure that facility goals are met. Manage the Production and Maintenance departments to ensure that customer quality requirements are consistently met safely and at the lowest possible cost.

Essential duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage daily production operations through the Production Superintendent, production supervisors and/or production teams to maximize production inefficiencies including volume of product produced, run rates, raw material utilization, yield loss, downtime, and slowdown while producing high quality product in a safe manner. Ensure that standards and expectations are in place, routinely communicated, clearly understood and consistently met.

  • Manage daily maintenance operations through the maintenance supervisors and planner. Establish work practices that optimize machine availability while balancing costs. Direct activities through the maintenance supervisors and planner to achieve maximum machine utilization and reliability. Establish and implement best practices including preventative measures that continuously improve machine performance. Approve all purchases of storeroom parts and maintenance services.

  • Meet daily production schedule and requirements, Work jointly with logistics and purchasing to ensure appropriate inventory mix is available, while balancing both production efficiency and raw material demands.

  • Develop, implement and track compliance to production and maintenance department expense budgets. Control key cost elements to ensure achievement of budget spending goals. Guide both production and maintenance supervision to achieve a balance between production needs, machine reliability and overall repair cost.

  • Ensure that production crews and maintenance techs are well trained, involved and committed to meeting production, quality and safety requirements. Assure that equipment and machinery complies with all outside regulatory agency requirements and that employees are adequately protected against safety hazards and that the plant is operated within environmental permit requirements.

  • Provide leadership and direction to the production and maintenance departments. Responsible for maintaining an environment for good employee relations to prevent any union organizing attempts. Work closely with human resources and supervisors to ensure appropriate staffing is maintained. Participate in hiring process to ensure we staff motivated team members. Ability to effectively communicate the Bonus Plan to all employees to maximize participation and impact on performance.

  • Manage production and maintenance department efforts supporting capital projects. Work with engineering manager and project engineers to define production and maintenance needs for capital reduce outside contractor costs. Manage production team efforts to perform raw material and other process trials in conjunction with process engineering department.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Under This Roof, We Require

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering (Chemical or Mechanical preferred) or Bachelors of Science in another discipline that is coupled with extensive manufacturing experience.

  • A minimum of 10 years of demonstrated manufacturing management experience including direct management of both production and maintenance functions.

  • Experience in high volume manufacturing operation, preferably continuous web process.

Summary

We are looking for a skilled manufacturing worker to join our team at our plant in Myerstown, PA. The Material Handler is a key contributor to the Production department, and is responsible for assisting the production team in various tasks throughout the production line.

Essential Duties

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Support production team as needed to clear jams, monitor equipment, empty waste hoppers, disposition product, perform housekeeping and fill-in for machine operator vacancies.

  • Work safely and assume responsibility for safety of self and others. Follow all safety rules and policies.

  • Maintaining excellent housekeeping.

  • Participate in equipment maintenance activities.

  • Participate in all machine shut-down and lace-up activities to support excellent machine uptime.

  • Attend and contribute to team meetings and training.

  • Communicate responsibly.

  • Strive for continuous improvement in areas of safety, quality and productivity.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 80 pounds

Team or Function Overview

Summary

The TPO Machine Technician is responsible for producing high quality commercial roofing products at GAF through accuracy, timeliness and efficiency of all manufacturing processes. The ideal candidate thrives in environments where safety, quality, service and cost are the highest priorities. The Machine Technician will perform various, rotating duties relating to all manufacturing operations. He or she will support the managers and all plant staff to meet operational goals and perform duties as assigned. Employees will contribute to a highly motivated and positive environment. The Machine Technician reports to the Production Manager.

Under the direction of the Production Manager and Shift Technician, the Machine Technician must be familiar with all areas of the TPO making process along with any off-line equipment associated with the production line and is responsible for maintaining a continuous efficient operation while assuring the proper setup of the TPO line, and associated equipment. It is the responsibility of all Technicians to operate in a safe manner, and monitor quality of the product we produce through the use of process specifications, Plant RCN, PCN, and online testing.

Team or Function Overview

This position will be on the Mt. Vernon, Indiana plant operations team, located about 20 miles west of Evansville. This GAF site was founded in 1973 and produces a wide variety of asphaltic shingles and rolled roofing materials.

Summary

The Quality Technician III will perform various quality systems and testing activities for manufacturing operations, including raw material and process fluid testing, quality audits, plant trials, and quality lab maintenance and organization.

Essential Duties

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Essential Duties

The CPL will lead procurement efforts for project teams by developing and executing procurement, supplier selection, contract administration & closeout strategies. They will::

  • Leverage the use of Category Strategies and Center of Excellence best practices to develop and implement -fit for purpose- project procurement strategies

  • Negotiate and deliver savings and risk mitigation strategies

  • Negotiate and manage large project contracts, including Engineering & Design, Construction (EPC) / Construction Management (EPCm) contracts

  • Act as project liaison for EPC / EPCm firms when procuring the balance of plant equipment and services to ensure that GAF technology (IP), standard commercial terms and best practices are adhered to

  • Remains proactive and translates how the changes in priorities of the Capital Project portfolio impacts the Procurement plans and Category strategies

  • Works closely with the business and project teams in providing risk and value engineering improvements with a continuous improvement mindset

  • Engaged in supplier dispute resolution and advises business stakeholders on strategies to minimize risks

  • Leverage insights gained from Procurement Key Performance Indicators to improve responsiveness and effectiveness

The Capital Procurement Leader (CPL) reports to the Senior Director, Indirect Manufacturing and Capital, and leads the procurement efforts across the life cycle of assigned projects.   • Negotiate and deliver savings and risk mitigation strategies

  • Negotiate and manage large project contracts, including Engineering & Design, Construction (EPC) / Construction Management (EPCm) contracts

  • Act as project liaison for EPC / EPCm firms when procuring the balance of plant equipment and services to ensure that GAF technology (IP), standard commercial terms and best practices are adhered to

  • Remains proactive and translates how the changes in priorities of the Capital Project portfolio impacts the Procurement plans and Category strategies

  • Works closely with the business and project teams in providing risk and value engineering improvements with a continuous improvement mindset

  • Engaged in supplier dispute resolution and advises business stakeholders on strategies to minimize risks

  • Leverage insights gained from Procurement Key Performance Indicators to improve responsiveness and effectiveness

Summary

Provides advanced preventative maintenance & repair support on equipment for the Statesboro ISO plant. This includes advanced mechanical and plant operations troubleshooting, working from blueprints and schematics as related to machine drives and conveying systems in a high volume production line environment.

Essential Duties

  • Provide advanced maintenance support and PM's of equipment for the Statesboro ISO Plant. This includes troubleshooting, working from blueprints and schematics as related to machine drives and conveying systems in a high production line environment.

  • Complete assigned work orders in a timely manner (includes documenting work performed in Maximo and closing out order).

  • Read instructions, blue prints and manuals, and use any meters, hand tools and shop equipment to perform the required job tasks.

  • Performs skilled maintenance and repair of mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and other physical structures. May drywall and plaster, lay bricks, or repair plumbing fixtures.

  • Perform millwright work such as aligning a pump and motor, install sheaves, belts, align equipment, check for proper alignment and belt tension.

  • Troubleshoot, repair/replace power transmission, pneumatic and hydraulic systems.

  • Perform all phases of welding including MIG Rod. Work on pipe systems, which would involve repairing, modifying, and installing systems.

  • Troubleshoot process control ladder logic and variable frequency drives (VFDs).

  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance assignments. Work with other members

  • of the maintenance department on mechanical and electrical projects, work orders and line calls.

  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical power trains, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, welding and assembly of parts and materials.

  • Working knowledge of 480v systems and their respective controls, ability to use and read a multimeter. Experience with Allen Bradley ControlLogix Controllers / RSLogix 5000.

  • Operate a manual mill and lathe.

  • Involved in planned and unplanned maintenance work and jobs for both daily and maintenance outages.

  • Provide on-the-spot, on-the-job equipment-related expertise and technical guidance.

  • Enhance communication and coordination between maintenance and other departments, especially the production department.

  • Provide input and feedback to the maintenance planner and storeroom personnel to refine/finalize labor, parts, priorities and methods.

  • Ensure safety, quality, timeliness, cost and thoroughness of work performed.

  • Responds as a First call-in contact for maintenance emergencies.

  • Participate in safety, continuous improvement, and 5S initiatives.

  • Provide a safe workplace through adherence to company safety policy, housekeeping

  • and defined standards of training. Stay in compliance with safety policies and procedures, conduct inspections of plant areas, and ensure deficiencies found are resolved or appropriately communicated.

  • Continue to grow, becoming well trained, involved, and committed to meeting

  • department expectations including following all safety requirements.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • High school diploma or GED.

  • 3+ years industrial or manufacturing maintenance experience required.

Under This Roof, We Also Value

  • Industrial maintenance experience in high volume manufacturing operation, preferably continuous process.

  • Experience troubleshooting and repair of mechanical power trains, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, welding and assembly of parts and materials.

  • Industrial Maintenance Certification or Associate's degree.

  • A working knowledge of 480v systems and their respective controls, ability to use and read multimeter.

  • Experience with Allen Bradley ControlLogix Controllers / RSLogix 5000 Software a definite plus.

  • Ability to operate a manual mill and lathe.

  • NFPA 70e Certificate preferred.

  • Possesses advanced knowledge of mechanical and facilities repair and maintenance.

Summary

The Maintenance Technician-Electronics responds to issues on the production lines and performs diversified maintenance work. The primary role of this position will focus on installation and repair of complex electrical/electronic/mechanical equipment including automated machines, robotics, and process controls. This position assists in implementing machine modifications and upgrades, conducts research and development to resolve issues, and recommends improvements to the overall performance of the plant equipment and systems. Qualified candidates must have Allen Bradley PLC programming/ troubleshooting experience.

Regular Shift: 5am to 3:30p (Monday-Thursday, some Friday work required)

Essential Duties

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Knowledge of the NEC and use of wiring methods that meet all code requirements

  • Plan and perform work requiring a thorough knowledge of electrical/electronic and mechanical theories and principles.

  • Periodically investigate and make an analysis of electrical or electronic-based problems associated with the production operations, and take the appropriate action to correct these problems.

  • Build and install industrial automation equipment.

  • Conducttechnicalauditsofequipmentconditionstatusandreportfindings.

  • Use Lock Tag Verify to remove all energy sources from equipment.

  • Ability to use basic hand tools and other tools required by your area of technical expertise.

  • Use Logix 500 and Studio 5000 software to troubleshoot. (Preferred)

  • Technicalskillsreflectinganunderstandingoftheoreticalconceptsaswellas practical application.

  • Allen Bradley PLC programming and troubleshooting experience.

  • Experience installing and repairing a wide variety of complex electrical/electronic equipment including automated machines, robotics and process controls.

  • Prior experience in industrial maintenance and repair of equipment as well as basic electrical and process control experience

  • Occasional shift, weekend and holiday coverage is required.
