JMT's Hunt Valley, MD office is seeking Design Engineer with 2-5 years of experience to be part of a design team in the creation and checking of structural analysis and design calculations, inspection, preparation of construction plan sets, and estimating costs for bridges and miscellaneous highway structures. Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Perform engineering tasks in the structural engineering field through application of AASHTO LRFD specifications, and design-oriented computer programs.

• Assist in the preparation of bridge project documentation including plan sets, specifications, and engineering estimates including the collection, assembling, and organizing of project data.

• Participate in plan and shop drawing reviews.

• Drafting using MicroStation.

• Assist in the field performing bridge and structure inspections.

• Write and review bridge inspection reports.

• Ability to interact and collaborate with various different engineering disciplines and other consultants.

• Attend project meetings and take meeting minutes.

• Responsibilities will require working compensated overtime when necessary.

Working Conditions

Position Summary We are seeking a dynamic, innovative, and quality-oriented Fire Protection Engineer with a minimum of 10+ years of experience who is interested in taking a leadership role within our Fire Protection engineering group. The successful candidate will be comfortable consulting to internal and external clients, including Federal/DOD, commercial air carrier airports, and transit systems. The Fire Protection Engineer will demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with a high-level ability to manage multiple projects at one time. As this is a growth area within our organization, the leadership within JMT is committed to assisting with both business development and expansion of the group as well as providing the team leader with the support necessary to enhance their marketing tools, skills, and capabilities.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Managing day-to-day contacts with internal and external clients utilizing experience and technology to meet expectations

• Performing research and document for internal and external distribution

• Performing field condition assessment and engineering analysis of existing fire protection systems, as well as system inspections.

• Willingness to travel on occasion, if required.

• Designing new fire protection systems including suppression systems, fire detection, alarm and mass notification systems

• Performing computer based hydraulic calculations

• Performing building and fire code analysis and interpretation

• Preparation of life safety plans and code summaries

• Performing computer-based fire modeling and familiarity with performance-based design

• Writing smoke control rational analyses

• Plan, schedule, conduct or coordinate detailed phases of the engineering work in a part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scope

• Prepare and compile contract plans, specifications, and estimates

• Manage project sub-consultants and in-house support disciplines

• Develop extra work order requests and open-end contract task proposals

• Prepare proposals as required

• Coordinate with internal team members to ensure project completion by the defined deadline and established quality

• Attend and participate in local and national trade organizations, such as SFPE and NFPA

Required Skills

• Possess experience working with Building Code Officials, Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) and Fire Marshals to coordinate unique and complex project requirements.

• U.S. Citizen with active security clearance or the ability to obtain a security clearance.

• Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in fire protection engineering or related engineering discipline from an accredited college or university

• Consulting experience with fire protection for DOD/Federal agencies with experience in Aviation and Transit a plus.

• Professional Engineering (PE) license in fire protection engineering

• Performs topographic plotting, terrain modeling, plat preparation, note reduction and design file generation

The tasks will range from data entry, making changes to interior design/architectural drawings to design of small projects. Other duties include, but are not limited to, assembling data and assisting with problem-solving requiring basic theories and interior design fundamentals; utilizing computer programs to solve interior design problems; assisting with layout and design of routine small and medium-sized interior design/architectural projects, finish specification development or preparation, and maintaining resource library.

• Experience using SharePoint or related Government construction management software (ePM, ProjNet, etc.) to communicate construction progress and process documentation.

• Experience using MS Excel or related cost estimating software to develop Independent Cost Estimates for change order negotiations

• Experience reviewing engineering designs, contractor shop drawings and/or vendor specifications and plans, or similar, to determine constructability and practicality of proposed work and adherence to established standards and requirements

Qualifications preferred

• Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Architecture, or Construction Management

• Engineering in Training (EIT), Registered Professional Engineer (PE), Certified Construction Manager, or Project Management Professional (PMP)

• Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 30-hour construction safety training

• Experience on Federal Courthouse Renovation projects

• Familiarity with GSA policies and procedures

Working Conditions

Work is performed in both an office and field (construction) environment. Office to field time is approximately 25% to 75% respectively. Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Participates in pre-survey planning meetings with project managers, engineers, and contractor representatives

• Assigns and monitors work, and provides input for evaluation of members of field survey crew

• Instructs and trains survey crew in survey and mapping methods, use of equipment, and field safety procedures

• Completes daily report cards and field note sketches

• Provides time estimates for specific tasks

• Performs complex surveying calculations using calculator, computer, and coordinate geometry software such as AutoCAD

Position Summary:

The Bridge Design Engineer/ Bridge Safety Inspector will design bridge and transportation structures of varying complexity in accordance with AASHTO and VDOT Specifications. The Bridge Design Engineer/ Bridge Safety Inspector will receive general supervision from the Project Manager and will work closely with Professional Engineers. Bridge design tasks and responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

• Structural analysis and design calculations for bridges (steel plate girders, prestressed concrete beams, foundations, etc.), retaining walls, bridge repairs, and ancillary structures (traffic signals, overhead sign structures, etc.).

• Preparing structural plan details in accordance with VDOT and industry standards, while also considering requirements from other disciplines (survey, roadway, drainage, etc.)

• Preliminary design reports, which summarize and compare different structural alternatives depending on the project.

• Quantity and cost estimate development.

• Construction submittal reviews, including RFI's and shop drawings.

The Bridge Design Engineer/ Bridge Safety Inspector will also be responsible for conducting NBIS inspections of in-service transportation structures such as bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and ancillary structures. The Bridge Design Engineer/ Bridge Safety Inspector will receive general supervision from the Project Manager and will work closely with a NBIS certified inspection team leader. Bridge safety inspection tasks and responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

• Reviewing existing information, including as-built plans and previous inspection reports.

• Assisting with bridge inspections, using lane closures and access equipment as appropriate.

• Recording and quantifying structural deficiencies.

• Developing structural repair and maintenance recommendations.

• Preparing bridge inspection reports.

Required Skills

• Ability to work on multiple project assignments in a dynamic, fast-paced team-oriented environment.

• Experience in using structural analysis and design software, MicroStation drafting software, and proficiency in Microsoft Office software including Word and Excel.

Required Experience

• Passed Virginia FE exam or has Virginia PE license.

Position summary: Manages and prepares documentation under the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 (NEPA). Manages, directs, and oversees work of NEPA Specialists or Environmental Scientists. Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Oversees and manages the preparation of NEPA documents including Categorical Exclusions (CE), Environmental Assessments (EA), and Environmental Impact Statements (EIS) and/or sections of EAs and EISs

• Supports and leads preparation of natural environmental technical reports

• Recommends data sources and directs research and data collection of designated environmental resources including wetlands and waterways, forests, soils, plants, air, noise, socioeconomic, land use, wildlife, etc. in support of the preparation of NEPA studies

• Reviews, interprets, and integrates various technical studies into NEPA documentation

• Oversees and manages preparation of administrative records for NEPA documents as required and in accordance with the Administrative Procedures Act

• Prepares NEPA schedules and milestones in accordance with client requirements and meets deadlines for schedule

• Manages and develops public involvement strategies and materials, and manages and leads stakeholder engagement activities

• Assists with or manages consultation requirements common to the NEPA process (e.g., Section 7 & 10 of the Endangered Species Act, or Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act)

• Oversees NEPA Specialists, Planners, and Environmental Scientists' work in NEPA documentation preparation and other assigned duties

• Monitors schedules, budgets and manpower requirements

• Hires, trains, develops, mentors, and conducts performance reviews for staff

• Leads preparation of scopes of work, fee proposals, and responses to RFP's, including teaming arrangements and attending and presenting at project/contract interviews

• Participates in and assists Section Heads with strategic planning and Business Development efforts, including leading initiatives

Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities

• Supports and/or participates in permitting processes, field investigations, including wetland delineations, forest stand delineations, threatened and endangered species surveys, and environmental compliance surveys (e.g., stormwater management facilities, erosion and sediment control procedures, etc.).

Required SkillsRequired Experience

• Bachelor's degree in natural or resource management, environmental or natural science, planning, or a related field, plus 10+ years of experience with essential functions and responsibilities as outlined above

• Expertise with NEPA regulations and requirements including, at minimum, 40 CFR 1500-1508

• Experience in planning, preparation and analysis/review of NEPA documents for roadway and transit clients

• TxDOT NEPA documentation experience, including leading and managing the preparation of CEs and EAs. Experience with TxDOT EISs is not necessary, but preferred.

• High competency with TxDOT ECOS and TxDOT Environmental Toolkit.

• Experience with multiple TxDOT districts across Texas.

• Demonstrated experience with managing complex and unique NEPA projects for various federal, state, and local municipality clients.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.

• Project management experience is desired, including developing and managing budgets, schedules, and quality of products.

Qualifications Preferred

• Master's degree in natural resource management, environmental or natural science, planning, or a related field, or a law degree

• Professional certification or license such as American Institute of Certified Planners, Certified Environmental Professional, or Project Management Professional

• Proficiency or familiarity in GIS, AutoCADD and/or Microstation

Working Conditions

Work is performed within a general office environment approximately 90% of the time. Office work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Office work is performed with adequate lighting and temperature, with no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc.
