Job Description

The Integrated Genetics Division is seeking a Molecular Genetics Technologist to join their team in RTP, NC ! The Molecular Genetics department at CMBP performs a wide array of testing for heritable disorders, including tests for cystic fibrosis, fragile X syndrome, thalassemia, thrombophilia, and many more. Assays performed in the Molecular Genetics Department utilize a variety of scientific techniques, including PCR, Next Generation Sequencing, fragment analysis, and gel electrophoresis.

The schedule for this position will be : 2nd shift, Sunday-Thursday 3:00pm-11:30pm

Job Responsibilities:

  • Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria.

  • Perform PCR based genetic testing in accordance with standard operating procedures for the diagnosis and treatment of various genetic conditions.

  • Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls.

  • Utilize a wide array of instrumentation, including Tecan, ABI 3730, and QIAgen QIAxcel instruments, NextSeq 2000s, performing quality control and calibrations, as required.

  • Accurately enter results of testing. Review reports to ensure accurate test result reporting in preparation for review by a Director / Pathologist.

  • Recognize problems and initiate troubleshooting steps to evaluate testing failures and other problems.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Technology or relatable life science field is required.

  • Minimum of 1 year of clinical laboratory testing with human specimens is required.

  • Previous experience with molecular biology techniques, such as PCR and/or gel electrophoresis preferred.

  • AMT or ASCP certification is preferred.

  • Must be able to pass a standardized color vision screen

  • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs
