The Transportation Manager position is responsible for managing private fleet and/or outsourced transportation fleet in 1 to 2 local distribution centers, as well as localized in-market transportation support, within the Ferguson supply chain network.
Support the Director of Logistics strategically and tactically in responding to key marketplace developments, trends, opportunities, or threats as well as proactively addressing key customer initiatives. Responsible for supporting the Director in all aspects of planning, monitoring, executing, and analyzing freight operations, planning tools, compliance, and standard operating procedures. Make decisions to enhance the performance, cost metrics, and safety of the local Transportation operation.
The Transportation Manager leads the strategy and design of the Dedicated transportation network and manages operations and service for all modes of domestic transportation (TL, LTL, Courier, Parcel). This position is responsible for leading and building relationships with Ferguson's domestic transportation providers and internal partners. This position is responsible for leading all aspects of daily planning of DC outbound shipments. The Transportation Manager meets with carriers regularly to provide insights and to drive performance improvement.
Job Duties
Accountable for 1-2 transportation operations (distribution centers).
Will support local in-market transportation operations and special projects.
Partner with area and district leaders by serving as the transportation subject matter expert, supporting the design and implementation of customer solutions.
Serve as primary contact within the assigned DC(s) for internal and external business inquiries and issues concerning carrier partners.
Partner with Accounting and Finance on freight invoice review, audit, and assist with variance analysis and reporting.
Collaborate with and support internal and external partners, customers, carriers, and vendors to ensure acceptable performance and service levels are being performed.
Provide RFP support as the local subject matter expert.
Manage carrier relationships, KPI's, and compliance.
Use the Transportation Management System, WMS, and other Ferguson systems to complete daily route plans and ad hoc contingency plans.
Monitor DOT compliance, Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, and industry requirements to ensure internal policies are adhered to.
Manage outsourced fleet and/or private fleet drivers. Discover opportunities for transportation harmonies between private and outsourced fleets.
Identify and analyze rates, operating costs, and revenues to establish continuous improvement designed to increase efficiencies and productivity.
Implement and facilitate multifaceted routing to achieve the least cost routing while providing the highest levels of customer service.
Qualifications
5+ years' experience in transportation, logistics, or supply chain preferred.
Ability to work independently and interface across internal departments and the Ferguson vendor and carrier community.
Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
Expertise in Microsoft Office.
Experience with Transportation Management Systems like Mercury Gate, OTM, JDA, or others.
Ability to create executive-level presentations and to communicate with senior management.
Transportation analysis expertise to include LTL, Truckload, Parcel, and broad Supply Chain exposure in a high-volume environment.
