Job Summary

The Southern Company Gas business is standing up a data and analytics organization named EDGE. EDGE stands for Enterprise Decision Support and Data Governance. This organization is created to provide Insights as a Service for the GAS business, where all decision-making data will be housed in the EDGE platform, and users can use modernized tools and technology to visualize and consume the data. This organization will partner with the TO organization who will help design the golden record and develop the ETL capabilities to transform and curate the data to be stored and build out the EDGE platform

The EDGE TO and Business organization will be responsible for several activities including:

  • To enhance the overall value of the company with the implementation and adoption of Data Driven EDGE platform

  • To implement a platform with clean, clear source of data platform on which future generations of AI can build new insights for the Enterprise and provide Strategic Decision Support Counsel to the Leadership of the Company

As part of EDGE TO organization we will have several technical resources whose work will be managed by the IT Supervisor for Data and Analytics.

The IT Supervisor, within Gas Technology Solutions will have the overall responsibility for leading a team of data and analytics technology resources. This data and analytics technical resource group will be responsible for helping to refine requirements, design and develop the golden record database, develop and implement the ETL process, and test and productionalize the data extract from various data sources to be ingested into the EDGE platform. This resource group will work closely with the rest of the GTS partners to understand, refine, designs and implement solutions. This position will work with consultants assigned to the engagement to coordinate and collaborate and ensure enterprise technology processes and policies and being followed.

Supervisor - Essential Duties Include

  • Ensure resources are on-hand and effectively utilized; maintaining the ability to 'flex' to meet EDGE business demands

  • Coordinate work assignments between this team and other groups within Gas Technology Solutions

  • Take a leadership role in ensuring data and analyst strategies and goals are being met

  • Supervision of the day-to-day activities and work guidance for direct reports

  • Performance management for the EDGE TO data and analytics team, including performance appraisals, mentoring, coaching, and providing technical leadership to less experienced staff

  • Lead, motivate and develop employees; apply strong oral and written communication skills; apply strong customer service and negotiating skills; exhibit initiative, and follow through with customer commitments; and apply sound performance techniques

  • Considerable interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively is essential

  • Provide hands-on technical guidance and direction to team, including developers, contractors, and vendors

Skills/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in MIS, Computer Science, or a related field

  • A comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle

  • Ability to handle multiple assignments and conflicting priorities

  • Knowledge and understanding of data warehousing, data engineering, data security, data quality and data visualization concepts

  • Strong understanding of modern hybrid (On-Prem{ Cloud) data architectures and cloud-computing concepts

  • Stron-understanding of the data and analytics tools, technoligies, and capabilities

  • Ability to embrace, propagate and implement change in the team and organization

  • Ability to work with business partners and peers of varying levels of technical proficiency

  • Interest in and passion for learning and working in a fast-paced environment

  • Experience with all size projects, enhancement projects and production support

  • Ability to identify root cause as well as mitigation required while working with other technical staff

  • Experience creating and refining Functional Design Documents, Technical Design Documents

  • Comprehensive, recognized leadership skills that build relationships and develop a team atmosphere

  • Knowledge of business analyst processes, methodology and tools

  • Experience with Agile delivery; Kanban; Scrum

Preferred Skills/Experience

  • Knowledge and understanding of GAS (Utilities) Industry and related data and analytics strategies

  • Hands-on experience with Oracle, SQL, SSIS, Power BI, Azure Data Lake, Data Factory, Databrinks, Python and Synapse Analytics

  • Hands-on experience with JIRA and/or Azure DevOps

  • Assist in the creation and mobilization of the EDGE organization, including standing up of the EDGE platform

  • Ability to coach team members in best practices and improvements

  • Coordinates with the EDGE business to agree on best approaches for delivery of solution and testing activities for EDGE platforms

  • Collaborates with their team leaders and others, to resolve complex business issues and problems

  • Develops and maintains productive working relationships with key business stakeholders, as well as external solution and advisory vendor organizations

  • Responsible for driving results, including setting expectations, prioritizing work, and evaluating results

  • Support manager in ensuring internal controls and governance are achieved in compliance with policies and standards

  • This position will report to the Manager in the Gas Technology Solutions organization
