JMT's Hunt Valley Surveys & SUE Team is seeking an Entry Level Field Crew Member (Survey and/or SUE) to work directly with experienced professionals involved with the collection of survey data and/or the depiction of underground utilities. This job requires the candidate be prepared for working in the field full time with extensive walking, climbing, line cutting and working near/in water and exposure to the elements. Qualified candidate may perform calculations, check calculations, perform certain field investigation or documentation tasks and perform data entry. Candidate must demonstrate ability to follow directions and willingness to learn and have the ability to work as part of a team.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Subsurface Utility Designation
Vacuum based excavation - Test Holes
All types of surveys including boundary, ALTA/ACSM, Right of Way, topographic, route, utility, wetlands, construction, etc.
Operate Survey/SUE equipment including electronic data collectors, levels, electronic total station, GPS, and multi-frequency radio detection equipment
Work requires skills in coordinate geometry and trigonometry
Required SkillsRequired Experience
High school diploma or equivalent
Job requires out of town travel and overtime (Weekends and/or nights)
Successful background check by third parties, such as WMATA, MWAA, MAA, TWIC, SWAC, etc
Related experience preferred
Working Conditions
Work is performed in the field 95% of the time. Ability to extensively perform bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, hammering, chopping and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs as needed. Work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
Work is performed within a general office environment 5% of the time. Office work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.
