Provides technical and analytical support to power station or substation personnel by performing dissolved gas analysis (DGA), oil screens, and furan testing of insulating oil samples delivered to the lab. Evaluates new methods, techniques, and instrumentation in the laboratory. Reviews and interprets chemistry data and instrumentation results. Provides evaluations and trends on oil sample data. Provides analysis, reviews, sampling, and/or trending of data on environmental and operational conditions. Develops programs to evaluate station or company chemistry, identify problems, and meet regulatory requirements. Performs maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting for advanced analytical instrumentation and lab equipment. Provides training and technical information to lower level staff. Conducts special projects, studies, or audits to support lab supervision. Orders supplies and equipment for laboratory. Manages the hazardous waste disposal program. Maintains chemistry databases and information. May prepare daily reports to management, including graphs of daily chemistry performance.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
5+ years of directly related experience (Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications)
In-depth knowledge of analytical chemistry, specifically Gas Chromatography (GC) and High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC)
Prior knowledge of environmental regulations such as ASTM and IEEE standard test methods
Experience with computer applications such as Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) or Transformer Oil Analyst (TOA)
Basic knowledge of company operations
Analytical and deductive reasoning skills
Reporting and technical writing skills
Data trending skills.
Ability to troubleshoot and solve equipment or process problems
Ability to lead team
To military applicants: Military service members and veterans with ranks from E5-E9, W1-CW5, or O3-O6, plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience as outlined (above/below).
Preferred Bachelor Degree (or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education)
