Job Description

Description: The hired person will join the 9 person Specialty Laboratory group focused on testing electronic parts and materials used in satellite and missile systems. The need to be trained on the lab operations is understood and expected. This is a hands-on lab position with the primary responsibility being to learn and operate the flash x-ray system in conjunction with a more experienced engineer as part of a two-person team testing the effects of prompt dose radiation on electronics. The operator needs to position parts being tested in the test set up zone per instructions, then perform a firing sequence sitting at the system operation console while communicating with another engineer collecting data on how the part performs during the radiation exposure. The hired person will need to be trained and comply with all safety and security procedures. The other main task will be to hand solder components to printed circuit boards (PCB/PWB) used in the testing.

Additional responsibilities will include basic system maintenance, performing standard electrical tests on components such as diodes and transistors, and possibly some equipment scheduling tasks. A small amount of support for the materials testing activity in the lab is also likely. There is definite potential for this hired person to grow and learn a wide variety of skills involving component level electrical testing, hand soldering, circuit board design, test system operation, coding on test systems, radiation effects, and even some materials testing. A person will excel in this role if he/she has interest in electronics, performing hands-on work, and is willing to be a versatile team member in a small group laboratory environment.

Basic Qualifications:

1) Experience related to electronics (function, testing, or soldering)

2) Experience with laboratory hands-on work

3) Basic computer proficiency (data entry, MS Excel, MS Word)

4) Willingness to learn and follow safety and security protocols

3) Ability to obtain/maintain a Government security clearance; US Citizenship Required
