Job Description
This position will report into the Corporate International Compliance Office and be responsible for supporting the company and its various business units with implementing HII's customs trade compliance program for exports and imports. Position will focus on reasonable care for customs clearance activity and compliance with customs requirements. This is a dynamic position where support to the business may involve problem solving and guidance then shift into directly preparing export or import shipment paperwork.
Responsible for supporting effective customs compliance practices at multiple business units. Overseeing and supporting the work of others as well as stepping into the role of trade analyst. Reviewing export/import filings for accuracy and completeness.
Ensures businesses are acting in accordance with U.S. and foreign customs laws as well as company procedures. Maintains necessary records.
Assist in HTS classifications and the completion of import/export paperwork. Hardware exports will include both USML (ITAR) and CCL (EAR) controlled equipment. Imports may include the utilization of USMIL (ATF) Form 6 permits.
Analyze free trade agreements and country of origin requirements for duty applicability.
Act as internal company expert in customs requirements.
Deal with customs brokers, supply shipper's letter of instruction, and filing of necessary reports to CBP.
Support responses to CBP requests for information or documentation.
Conduct self-assessments of customs activity.
Provide training to both practitioners and internal partner organizations.
Provide input to the overall trade compliance program to make improvements.
As necessary, support investigation of potential errors.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelors Degree and 10 years of experience. Masters Degree and 8 years of experience. 4 years of related exempt experience can be substituted for Bachelors degree. 8 years of non-related exempt experience can be substituted for Bachelors degree. A relevant professional certification can be substituted for a Bachelors Degree. Customs Broker License or a relevant professional certification (i.e. - Import/Export Trade Certificate) from an accredited organization can be substituted for a Bachelor's degree.
Preferred Qualifications
UK HS classification experience preferred.
DCMA duty free process preferred.
Experience with ATF form 6 permit imports preferred.
Experience with export jurisdiction classification determinations (USML/CCL) preferred.
Ability to pull reports from Automated Commercial Environment and track import activity a must. ACE user management experience preferred
