Microsoft Cloud Hardware Infrastructure Engineering (CHIE) is the team behind Microsoft's expanding Cloud Infrastructure and responsible for powering Microsoft's -Intelligent Cloud- mission. CHIE delivers the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's over 200 online businesses including Bing, MSN, Office 365, Xbox Live, Skype, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform globally with our server and data center infrastructure, security and compliance, operations, globalization, and manageability solutions. We are seeking a Senior Director of Hardware Engineering to define and develop leading technology solutions for the Cloud. You will partner with outstanding suppliers, technology partners, and Azure Engineering teams across Microsoft to architect and design innovative hardware Cloud infrastructure that can perform complex and high-performance functions in the most efficient manner for a wide range of workloads. We strive to balance architectural choices to optimize performance, power, TCO and time to deploy in Azure datacenters.

Successful candidate will have experience managing and leading hardware engineering teams with a proven track record of delivering leading edge technology infrastructure combined with business acumen, organizational skills, culture and change management experience with the ability to execute in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

This leadership role will require you to drive innovation, partnerships, and development:

  • Technology Leadership - workacross Azure to define and develop the new Cloud hardware product roadmap for our customers.

  • Technology Partnerships - build strong relationships with our technology and development partnersto drive leading edge innovation into our next generation products.

  • Organizational Leadership - manage, lead, grow, and mentor an outstanding team ofengineering managers and electrical, power, mechanical and thermal engineers.

  • Continuous Improvement - drive process improvements through specifications and engineering development processes to enable abest-in-classengineering organization.

  • Customer Focus - partner with many Microsoft teams and collaborate to deliver industry leading products.

This is a key position in a high profile, high growth organization. You will report to the GM of Cloud Hardware Systems Engineering, with direct responsibility for Cloud hardware product development. You will regularly need to present new product development plans and status to the senior leadership team.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related engineering discipline OR equivalent industry experience.

  • 2+ years experience with cloud product engineering development and integration.

  • 10+ years experience leading engineering teams in new product development of server, desktop, or high run rate electronic systems.

  • Subject Matter Expertise in Cloud Hardware design, HW development life cycle, and governance best practices.

  • DFx (Design for cost, test, quality, manufacturing) expertise.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related engineering discipline

  • Strong intellectual curiosity and a passion about learning and deploying new technologies

  • Experience with large-scale distributed systems, datacenter infrastructure, and cloud services engineering for compute, storage, and AI GPU applications

  • An understanding of Azure technologies (www.azure.com)

  • Relevant experience with component architecture beyond hardware, including software, and firmware

  • Demonstrated ability to achieve results, create a high-performing, healthy and scalable organization.

  • Ability to apply a variety of strategic frameworks to analyze problems and guide solutions.

  • Experience managing complex partner engagement and leading engineering collaboration.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with executives and technology leaders inside and outside of Microsoft.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
