As a member of the National Geographic Learning Course Solutions team, the Designer carries out the design vision for digital and print programs adding creative value throughout the process. Primarily the designer will implement designs within components to assist the Creative Director, Managing Art Director, or Senior Designer with overall program implementation. They will participate in concepting, thumb nailing, photo reviews, and live development reviews, as needed, to assure fidelity to the creative vision. The Designer has selected opportunities to build original designs and assures that the design of key features is reflected in assigned components, both print and digital. What you will do here: Design Execution 80% + Crafts layouts aligned to approved prototypes and specifications using existing UI libraries + Provide design support to team related to creation and development of graphics, icons, and photo retouching and manipulation + Handles time effectively on all assignments + Partners with AD/Sr. Designer to connect with outside creatives + Builds and provides materials for market research efforts, as needed 2. Concepting and prototyping 10% + Under the direction of the Art Director, translates the program's content into a visual design experience + Integrates feedback from internal collaborators; understands program objectives and incorporates feedback into designs + Understands the instructional framework and adds to a program's pedagogy through design solutions + Coordinates with Media Research to identify visuals needed + Coordinates with the Production Specialists as needed on prototypes 3. Collaborative development 10% + Works with the Design team to implement standard methodologies towards excellent design and brand experience + Looks for ways to streamline product development processes + Keeps managers and project team advised of status of assigned work and communicates effectively with team + Develop an understanding of the resources of the National Geographic Society and seek opportunities to apply them in engaging digital experiences. Skills you will need here: + Four-year college degree or equivalent experience with an emphasis on Graphic Design, Media Design, or UX Design + Minimum two years' experience in design + Provides a portfolio of work that demonstrates creative problem solving skills, conceptual and critical thinking, sensitivity to typography, and market-appropriate design + Demonstrates knowledge of design principles for both print and digital; color, layout, design, composition, and pre-press standards + Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communications skills + Ability to work within a team, provide feedback in a constructive manner and relate product requirements succinctly and effectively + Ability to manage project deliverables to schedule and budget + Attention to detail and organizational skills required + Proven problem-solving and critical-thinking skills + High proficiency in a Macintosh-based design environment using Adobe Creative Cloud Preferred Skills: + Experience with Sketch and InVision + Understanding of basic UX/UI principles + Working knowledge of HTML5 and CSS + Experience in K-12 or ELT educational markets + Experience with Microsoft Office At National Geographic Learning, a part of Cengage Group, we are enabling opportunity, powering progress, and supporting student journeys toward college and career.
