Industry Solutions Delivery (ISD) is the consulting division within Microsoft Corp. The Central Solutioning and Estimation Team within ISD is accountable for crafting the solutions, estimates, Statements of Work, staffing model and overall delivery approach for ISD's most complex transactions and strategic customers.

The Central Solutioning and Estimation Manager, North America, will lead a distributed global team of senior solution architects who work in collaboration with multiple Microsoft teams (Sales, Delivery, Accounts, Quality Assurance, Legal, Finance, Partner Management, Engineering, Service Lines, Industry, Innovation) to execute the above function with agility, speed, consistency, quality, IP reuse, standardization, and continuous improvement. The objectives are to significantly reduce the cycle time of solutioning and estimation, raise the quality of deliverables, increase the win rate, and apply learnings from delivery into the solutioning and estimation process. In this senior role you will interface with both internal and customer executive leaders.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with North America Regional and Operating Unit (OU) Sales/Delivery leadership teams to review new opportunities and ensure appropriate routing to Central or Area Solutioning TeamsLeadership of the North America Central Solutioning and Estimation function (approx. 15-20 architects onshore and offshore combined) for complex deals; the function is accountable for:

  • working with sales teams and pursuit management to understand desired customer outcomes and requirements

  • leveraging standard estimation models to develop work effort estimates for various solution area deals and, in many cases, deals that involve multiple solution areas

  • developing the staffing model, staffing mix and work breakdown structure

  • developing the delivery and subcon/partner leverage approach

  • ensuring estimates are fit to purpose and the delivery teams can deliver

  • ensuring appropriate IP and offers are leveraged to accelerate both solutioning/estimation and delivery

  • driving continuous improvement of solution/estimation models and heuristics via learnings from delivery and competitive benchmarks

  • Start the function onshore and help to gradually build the offshore solutioning and estimate center via hiring, setting up estimation processes and SOW development capabilities

  • Drive the development of a library of solutioning and estimation assets to continuously improve the speed and quality of solutions and estimates

  • Continue enhancing solutioning and estimation processes for greater speed, quality, consistency, and efficiency

  • As the business evolves, apply learnings from delivery and work with the delivery excellence team and CTO functions to update estimation models and delivery approaches

  • Engage directly with senior internal and customer stakeholders to explain solutions, estimates, delivery approaches and work through fit to purpose as needed

  • Serve as a senior leader and advisor who proactively engages with the sales and delivery ecosystem to solve problems, raise maturity, and drive continuous improvement.

  • Provide situational coaching to architects on the most complex pursuits as needed

  • Oversee the solutioning to delivery handover for complex deals once the deal is contracted

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field AND 8+ years' experience in technology solutions, practice development, architecture, and/or consulting

  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years experience in technology solutions, practice development, architecture, and/or consulting,

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Recent experience working with sales and delivery to lead solutioning and estimation for Cloud transformation/migration (required), for a region, geo or solution area including 5+ years in a CTO-like or Architecture leadership function

  • 6+ years as a People Manager with a good track record in developing leaders, building geographically distributed teams, coaching and growing team members.

Preferred Qualifications:

Work Experience and Skills

  • Multi-solution area deal experience preferred

  • 6+ years working in a consulting organization, preferably Big 5 Consulting, large

  • Global System Integrators, Microsoft, EDS, HP, Oracle, Salesforce or IBM

  • Demonstrated impact in being a coach and mentor.

  • 10+ years' experience partnering with senior internal and customer stakeholders

  • Expertise in estimation models and continuous improvement in heuristics

  • Familiarity with industry standard solution delivery and project management methodologies

  • Working knowledge of pursuit methodologies, commercial terms and conditions, consulting pricing models

Business Acumen

  • Working knowledge of how customers make business decisions and establish priorities around technology requirements/investments.

  • Strong executive presence and executive communication skills

Strategic Thinking and Continuous Improvement

  • Demonstrated experience in developing evolution plans for teams to drive improvements and new services/solutions.

Financial Management and Data Analysis

  • Proficiency in budgeting and expense management

People Management

  • Track record of managing/leading distributed indirect organizations of 50+ people, coaching, evolving skills and growing maturity.

Location/Travel: You may be based anywhere in the United States. You can expect approximately six weeks of regional/global travel.
