REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Collaborates with perioperative health care and surgical services team members in the provision of safe, high quality patient care. Serves as a liaison to identify and take action as delegated on service needs associated with the care of the patient.
POSITION SUMMARY
Functions as an expeditor of surgery schedule through collaboration with surgery desk, wing leaders, and clinical staff. Provides support to daily operations of the anesthesia department. Performs inventory functions for specific services. Serves the following age populations: infant, pediatric adolescent, adult, and geriatric.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
Provides surgical support and assistance with nursing care tasks in assigned areas of responsibility.
Assists in preparing OR with supplies and equipment utilizing departmental policies and procedures, physician preferences, ad age related requirements. Assists with room turnover by cleaning, moving equipment, and restocking OR suites and storage areas. Restocks anesthesia carts and supply centers, replaces anesthesia drug drawers for Surgery, Endoscopy, and OB.
Assists clinical staff with transporting, moving, positioning, and prepping of patients including limb holding. Demonstrates mastery of age-related competencies.
Procures and delivers needed supplies, specimens, blood, equipment, and anesthesia related monitoring equipment from other departments.
Maintains clean and orderly environment in ORs and wing, including anesthesia equipment. Maintains sterile awareness when in ORs and in handling of sterile supplies.
Maintains aseptic technique, which includes observation of the surgical team. Promptly addresses any observed breaks in aseptic technique.
Troubleshoots anesthesia equipment as needed. Responds to requires/pages promptly. Demonstrates knowledge of anesthesia equipment based on age of patient.
Performs preventative maintenance and quality assurance functions of monitors and equipment. Includes monthly cleaning of equipment and physical areas.
Manages supplies, storage areas, specialty cars, and equipment for service specific areas of responsibility. Includes daily inventory, rotation of stock, check for expiration dates. Check supplies received for completeness and accuracy.
Provides calibration and performance check on anesthesia equipment according to determined standards.
Participates in the process of orientation of new employees to the Surgery Attendant role. Functions as a cooperative and supportive member of the surgery department staff.
Transport patients as needed from acute care floors to pre-op and/or surgery desk.
Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Skills: Basic knowledge of computer skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Medical Terminology.
Years of Experience: One or more years nursing assistant and/or unit clerk experience.
Certification: BLS
WORKING CONDITIONS
Personal Protective Equipment: Safe patient handling equipment. Isolation equipment appropriate to category.
Physical Demands: Must be able to frequently move, lift or carry light to medium weight. Must be able to tolerate exposure to dust, fumes, chemicals, temperature changes, and possible exposure to blood and bodily fluids. Must be able to occasionally and with assistance, be able to move heavy weight materials, equipment, or patients. Must be able to operate are specific equipment.
