What We're Looking For
The South Central Texas office of HNTB is seeking an experienced Landscape Architect/Urban Designer to work in the Urban Design and Planning department located in downtown Austin, TX. With a focus on transportation, our office works to provide local, regional, and state-wide connectivity solutions for our public agency clients. Candidates with a preferred minimum of 8 years of experience that have an interest in transportation-related design and planning are encouraged to apply. The Landscape Architect/Urban Designer will work on a variety of project typologies including streetscape design, bicycle/pedestrian and greenway design, complete streets, transit station design, low impact design, and traditional landscape architecture for major infrastructure projects including, roadway, bridge, park and transit projects. The designer will work with multi-disciplined teams comprised of internal HNTB peers and external subconsultants.
Applicants must have the ability to work on complex projects which are prone to change, good technical and artistic skills, a strong problem-solving mindset, and good communication skills, including the ability to listen, educate, and empathize.
Primary Focus Will Include:
Independently developing design and technical solutions.
Preparing scopes of work, fee proposals and responses to RFPs for projects and pursuits.
Articulating project design in written, verbal, and graphic form.
Directing and coordinating technical work efforts with the project team and reviewing technical work performed by team members of lesser experience for accuracy and completeness. Performs quality checks to ensure client requirements are met.
Establishing, maintaining, and growing client and industry peer relationships. This includes participation in professional, industry, and/or community activism organizations.
Providing Urban Design visioning to applicable projects and pursuits.
Helping to grow the Urban Design and Planning practice in the Central Texas Region with support from HNTB's network of Urban Planners and Landscape Architects.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
Master's Degree in Landscape Architecture, Planning, Urban Design or related field.
Registered Landscape Architect (RLA), Professional Landscape Architect (PLA)

What You'll Need
Essential Responsibilities:
Serves as technical lead or deputy lead from a variety of conceptual planning and concept development through construction documentation.
Investigates, evaluates, and recommends the design and technical solutions that best meet the project needs.
Leads technical tasks from conceptual planning, and concept development through construction documentation for landscape architecture and urban design tasks.
Develops conceptual, design development, and construction-level plans and technical specifications for urban design and landscape architecture (layout plans, planting plans, grading plans and construction details) using CAD software.
Develops preliminary design concepts, technical solutions, studies, graphics, models, animation, photo-simulations, illustrations, and reports for projects.
Directs landscape architectural, land planning, transportation, and urban design projects from concept development through working or submission drawings, and final urban design plans.
Coordinates with clients, sub-consultants, and in-house personnel on a regular basis to complete assigned tasks.
Leads the production of 3D graphics and renderings using the latest software.
Presents project work to client and community groups.
Supports public outreach coordination and facilitation.
Prepares scopes of work, fee proposals and responses to RFP's.
May oversee the work and mentor less experienced staff.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Landscape Architecture, Planning, Urban Design or related field or 6 years of related professional experience
Master's Degree in Landscape Architecture, Planning, Urban Design or related field and 5 years of related professional experience
