SAIC is looking for a NASA Research Project Manager to support one of our NASA programs. This position is in Washington, D.C. at NASA Headquarters. The NASA SMD ESD Student Airborne Research Program (SARP) has successfully and consistently provided hands-on Earth system science research experience for college and university undergraduate students by leveraging NASA's airborne assets: platforms, sensors, systems, and people. The 8-week summer program includes two weeks at a NASA Flight Research Center's facility learning about and flying onboard NASA aircraft, and six weeks at an academic institution analyzing data and carrying out independent research.
The SARP PM will work closely with the SARP Program Scientists in the planning, organization, and execution of the yearly Student Airborne Research Programs for advanced undergraduates. This will require interfacing with university faculty, students, NASA Headquarters leadership, and coordination across the various NASA centers.
Job Description:
The development and upkeep of the SARP website and application, both to be hosted on a NASA domain.
The development of Program material focused at promoting the Program for the recruitment of students and overall awareness of the Program (for NASA conference booths and mailings); Representation of the Program at relevant science conferences; Promoting the Program through communications activities (traditional and social media by writing articles and blog posts about the Program, providing content to the ASP, SARP, and NASA Earth social media accounts).
Assisting the SARP Program Scientists in recommendations for recruitment of faculty, mentors, speakers, and instrument principal investigators to participate in the programs.
Assisting the SARP program managers in strategic planning, routine program, and project management activities such as organizing and running grants proposal review panels, preparing grants award documents, holding status review meetings, and running community workshops and sessions at professional conferences.
Arrangement of all logistics including transportation, housing, meals, and participant employment and compensation.
The coordination of Program support through the recruitment and oversight of program support personnel.
This position will also be the on-site SARP staff member responsible for all participant activities during the program.
The development and execution of the evaluation of the program.
Support of all alumni activities and communication.
The Project Manager will give reports to NASA Headquarters staff on the Student Airborne Research Program. These reports will include status reports and a final report with evaluation results after completion of the program.
Project Manager will be expected to have high organizational and strong interpersonal skills, and customer service relations as well as an ability to communicate effectively with a broad spectrum of people.
The PM should also be able to provide innovative and implementable solutions that are strategic and tactical, and in alignment with the priorities of NASA, and SARP.
Communicates, engages, and builds consensus with NASA leadership.
Self-starter, work independently and can operate with minimal oversight.
Manages multiple and competing responsibilities using effective time management and organizational skills.
