Division Description:

ITW Shakeproof Industrial Products (SIP) serves major OEMs and their tier suppliers direct and through distribution channels in the industrial market. SIP supplies metal stamped & cold headed fasteners totaling approximately $60M in revenue annually. Manufacturing / Warehouse locations include Milwaukee, WI; Broadview, IL; Watertown, WI; and Iron Ridge, WI.

Over the past 5 years, SIP has streamlined the manufacturing operations and product offerings that has resulted in a significant increase in operating efficiencies at all plants. SIP is now embarking on aggressive revenue growth and is searching for proven sales leaders to be a part of the success.

Position Summary :

The Application Engineer , as part of our division's commercial excellence team, and primarily located at our Watertown, WI manufacturing plant, will be responsible for supporting sales team by means of communicating technical information with the customer and internal stakeholders. This position will have direct communications with customers and suppliers to obtain the best solution for projects by applying knowledge of engineering principles to develop, design, engineer and validate products. Requires some product design for new parts and assemblies with varying degrees of complexity, and high degree of creativity but most of the responsibility will be in working with the customer to define the application, identify the best solution and communicate with the design team on the requirements. This role requires flexibility, ability to manage multiple projects and work with several stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Be the -go-to- for the sales team as a first point of contact for technical training, guidance and customer engineering activity (project definition).

  • Attend sales and engineering meetings to support product development at customer locations.

  • Manage and coordinate project assignments with the Sales and Engineering Teams to meet specific customer requirements. Transfer projects to the teams through clear communication of customer technical requirements.

  • Ensure product designs meet or exceed customer, manufacturing, and financial requirements.

  • Benchmark competitive products.

  • Consolidate engineering knowledge for efficient coordination and execution of technical training presentations (external and internal).

  • Coordinate technical representation for trade shows.

  • Develop, implement, and manage sales automation strategies including tools, technologies, and work practices to manage and improve sales cycle. Identify opportunities to reduce operational cost through use of technology and common processes.

  • Compile POS (Point of Sales) data and dissemination process including analyzing data and presenting trend details to the Sales Manager and Functional Managers.

  • Manage quote activity by maintaining accurate quote processes/programs to increase efficiency within the customer service department.

  • Manage Special Pricing agreement processes (these pricing agreements are approved by others) and ensure alignment with growth plans.

  • Provide initial evaluation of quality concerns at local customer facilities; transfer information and insights to the Quality Department for full coordinated response.

  • Perform basic testing of products in application at ITW's plants or customer locations, to help build the customer relationship.

  • Conduct due diligence for capital expenditures of existing parts.

  • Other tasks and duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering required; Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering disciplines preferred.

  • Efficient CAD Design: 2D-AutoCAD, 3D-SolidWorks

  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Excellent time management, prioritization abilities and strong project management skills

  • Excellent computer skills including Excel and Microsoft systems (e.g. Word, Outlook)

  • Experience interpreting drawings, pulling specifications and identifying processes or test requirements.

  • Background in metals field manufacturing processes (cold forming, stamping, assembly, heat treatment, plating, inspection etc.) and mechanical testing (tension, torsion, fracture, fatigue); preferred.

  • Personally driven and motivates others to excel. Curious to find new opportunities and projects.

  • Strong analytical skills coupled with the ability to exercise sound judgment.

  • Work efficiently without significant supervision / management.

  • Willing to travel domestically, as required.
