Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Economics, Environmental/Earth Sciences, Data Science, MIS, Computer Science, Engineering or a related field a plus

  • Master's Degree, Ph.D., or progress toward Masters/Ph.D. is also a plus.

Relevant Experience

  • Technical Project Development, Research, Business Development, Product Development or Product Strategy

  • Project responsibilities within Operations function of a utility or related industry

  • Business case and partnership development

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Undergraduate or master's degree or have 5 - 10 years of work experience after completing your undergraduate degree

  • Demonstrated experience in Utility operations; preferably natural gas experience

  • Self-Starter

  • Ability to understand and interpret new technology viability

  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work effectively with people at all levels in an organization

  • Zeal for technology innovation, business transformation and product development

  • Sound judgment skills to understand priority projects and their impact to the organization's goals.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment.

  • Ability to effectively communicate (written and orally) to build consensus around abstract and sometimes complex concepts

  • Ability to take full ownership of projects and lead them to successful delivery

Essential Responsibilities:

In this role you will:

  • Contribute to the management of Southern Co,'s relationship with Energy Impact Partners, including:

  • Matching Portfolio Company solutions with operating company and end customer problems

  • Monitoring portfolio company progress and reporting on that progress to Southern Co. leadership and Southern Co. business partners

  • Collating EIP updates, industry updates, and market intelligence to contribute to case studies, white-papers and research briefs

  • Creating internal and external communications (copywriting, powerpoint graphics)

  • Perform due diligence, including technical, financial and feasibility evaluation

  • Contribute to the management of Southern Company's relationship with mHub and maximize engagement with related projects.

  • Business Case Development for Portfolio Company pilots and programs, including:

  • Technical diligence and presentation

  • Collate of data and input from multiple stakeholder groups

  • Participate and lead cross-company working teams

  • Monitor the evolving landscape for new energy technologies, focusing on but not limited to natural gas transition, distributed energy resources (DERs), digital technologies, decarbonization and sustainability.
