Responsibilities

  • Provides marketing strategy, execution and services, marketing functions and future marketing directions to all departments in Science Operations,

  • The incumbent will supervise all contractors that support integrated science marketing and strive to increase Scientific Sessions science abstract submissions and reach, as well as increase professional attendance, in conjunction with additional Professional Membership marketing, through market planning, print design and production, direct mail, e-mail campaigns, advertising, web content development, on-site signage and promotional programs as well all other aspects of marketing and any research studies needed. Strong project management of vendors and agencies, in a variety of marketing venues (print, video, photography, PR, strategic planning collaborations, etc.), as well as brand management and compliance oversight. Research and maintain information on internal/external environmental trends, as well as provide measurable ROI on all campaigns. Manage ongoing relationships with internal and external audiences, including but not limited to corporate sponsors, strategic partners, vendors, agencies, and volunteers on the development, production and implementation of key initiatives.

  • Maintain and increase Scientific Sessions abstract submissions and registration attendance, as well as increase Professional Membership, Scientific Publishing subscribers and Research applicants by coordinating, developing and directing all functions for marketing Scientific Sessions, journals/books and/or research programs. Specific Council and membership marketing campaigns highlighting offerings at SS geared toward each audience. Increase abstract submission and webinar registration for the Emerging Science Series. Work with the Director in establishing initial relationship and scope of work and take the lead on agency and vendor management: project management of vendors and agencies, in a variety of marketing venues (print, video, photography, PR, strategic planning collaborations, etc.), as well as brand management and compliance oversight. Senior level reporting to C level on trends, ROI, marketing reach and impact for Scientific Sessions' abstract submission, registration, and demographics of the meeting. Tracking segmentation, regional influences, attendee specialties, council affiliations, and industry trends for future planning and marketing. Marketing campaigns for specific alliances, population segments, and specialties of care; including content marketing, web, social media, and science translation into layman terminology. Need the ability to match Scientific Sessions programming with both content and strategy for reaching the targeted audiences by specialty and classification.

  • Direct, manage and develop staff to meet the department and AHA goals, if applicable. Oversee temps and also dotted line of Professional Education position; to assist with Scientific Sessions workload. Also, oversee the Manager of Awards and Lectures to streamline the marketing and communication for SS and for all conferences to cross promote and add value to AHA members/potential members. This cohesive approach will streamline the Scientific Sessions' value to our members and attendees, as well as ensure cohesive messaging, tracking of ROI for all factors related to Sessions, and future planning/trending.

  • Manage revenue and budget for established portfolio while identifying potential cost savings and revenue gains. Budget projections, invoices, and contracts for each budget -

  • Project management of AHA's premier conference; from design projects, team collaborations for marketing 16 different programming specialities,16 councils offerings, and numerous digital and print projects totaling over 40 projects per year, in addition to general marketing duties Manage project timelines, deadline compliance and effective communication and dissemination of both at a senior level competency, which involves cross collaboration with various teams; meetings, councils, specialty conferences, design, etc.

  • Establish trusted communication with senior level volunteers and anticipate needs and expectations to grow both Scientific Sessions and Emerging Science Series. Weekly interaction and implementation of marketing indicatives to grow both Scientific Sessions and the Emerging Science Series. Senior level reporting on all SS initiatives from abstract submissions, to registration trends and numbers to various marketing projects.

  • Working with OSO, internal departments and affiliates to meet department goals and establish OSO as a leader in AHA. Collaborations involve C-Level staff and volunteers.

  • Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers. Foster alliances with cross functional teams internally and externally, in both the domestic market and An example for an internal customer is creating a marketing plan that includes all appropriate initiatives for growing conference abstract submissions and attendance. An example for an external customer is working with fulfillment vendor launch registration campaigns in order to increase awareness and attendance to Scientific Sessions. Project management includes collaboration discussions, contract negotiations, legal approval, project implementation and tracking of ROI and reach of each project, then reporting to C-level on results and trending.

  • Manage the market planning for Sci-Sessions registration, call for abstracts submissions, and specialty tracks/programming, as well as membership related marketing in conjunction with SS, print design and production for minimum of 15 print pieces, direct mail, e-mail campaigns for 18 different segments, as well as 120 broadcast emails for Scientific Sessions, 40 for Emerging Science Series Journal ads for advertising, videos for promotion, web content development, on-site signage and promotional programs as well all other aspects of marketing and any research studies needed.

  • Lead all market research efforts and surveys, as well as the reporting of results and future year planning based on these results. Research best practices, competitors, growing registration and call for abstracts reach, as well as targeted international growth and regional growth. Assist with surveys and market research to evaluate and adjust marketing efforts to better meet our attendees needs. Additional projects as needed: Specialty programming, council activities at Sessions, photography, social media, final reports, executive summaries, higher print and digital projects, vendor management, project management, convention bureau liaison.

  • Understand and market the overall AHA/ASA Scientific Sessions Conference and its benefits through various marketing mediums to the cardiovascular science community, in order to retain current submitters and attendees, as well as increase the reach/awareness/and attendance of Scientific Sessions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Advertising, Communications, or closely related field

  • Five (5) years of science marketing work related experience

  • Ability to work independently in a fast paced, deadline driven environment

  • Demonstrated ability in print marketing, design, delivery, internet and e-marketing knowledge

  • Project Management skills

  • Supervisory experience

  • Experience with budgets, developing marketing plans and running marketing campaigns

  • Strong oral and written communication skills; interpersonal skills
