Community Relations Manager- Southern Division

This position is responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with external stakeholders, promoting Alabama Power Company programs and initiatives within local communities, and assisting with the continued growth, development, and revitalization of towns and cities.

This position will be responsible for relationships with local public officials including municipal and county elected and appointed officials. Responsibilities include taking leadership roles in workforce development, community development, economic development, civic clubs, industrial development boards, and regional planning commissions. Manager will identify and build relationships with special interest groups including environmental organizations, business groups, local unions, minority organizations, faith-based groups, and others where applicable. The Manager will serve as the liaison between local communities and corporate community development resources. This role will have responsibility over multiple communities and municipalities in Butler, Lowndes, Wilcox, and Crenshaw counties and the Southern part of Montgomery County in Southern Division. The manager will be required to attend governmental and community meetings outside standard work hours. The manager will also assist other Alabama Power departments with local needs.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:(Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills)

Education:

  • BS/BA degree is preferred

Experience:

  • Experience working with elected/public officials and managing external relationships

  • Demonstrated experience in coordinating resources to solve community problems, promote growth and development and resolve concerns.

  • Demonstrated ability to work within a team

  • Experience in managing multiple external issues and events

  • Experience with varied external organizations including, but not limited to, not-for-profit/charitable organizations, civic clubs, special interest organizations, community/economic development groups.

  • Models behaviors of putting safety first, possesses unquestionable trust (honesty, fairness, respect, and integrity), and is committed to delivering superior performance.

  • Demonstrated ability to work well with different levels of management, employees, and external customers

Knowledge/Skills/Attributes:

  • Requires excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to build and maintain strong internal relationships with those at all levels and with different departments within Alabama Power

  • Effective problem-solving abilities are required

  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of ethical behavior in both job-related and personal activities to create a high level of trust and credibility with the community

  • Highly adaptive to changing demands and priorities

  • Ability to maintain a controlled demeanor, composure and objectivity when confronted with difficult issues

  • Commitment to understand and adhere to Alabama Power's Compliance and Ethics guidelines. Ability to travel and remain flexible with work schedule

  • Availability to attend events after standard working hours

  • Ability to interact with local media and to advance Alabama Power messaging

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Building and maintaining excellent relationships with public officials, community organizations, civic groups

  • Serving as an active participant with economic and community development organizations including, but not limited to: workforce development boards, industrial development boards/authorities, regional planning groups, local community development organizations, local chambers of commerce, and local economic development organizations.

  • Liaison between external community needs and internal resources

  • Responsible for communicating key company messages to appropriate external stakeholders

  • Responsible for identifying and communicating potential local issues or concerns (where applicable)

  • Additional responsibilities include supporting storm restoration including after hours and on weekends/holidays as needed .
