Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The supervisor is a registered nurse responsible for the operation of the clinical activities of the Center for Wound Care and facilitating best nursing practices in all ProMedica Wound care facilities. Under the supervision of the Office Manager, this position is responsible for supervising the day to day operation of the clinical areas of the wound care. In conjunction with the Office Manager and Medical Director, the supervisor will plan, organize, and manage personnel and resources in order to provide the highest quality wound care in the most cost-effective and productive manner. The supervisor is responsible for standardizing nursing care throughout the systems ambulatory wound care sites. Requires skills in organization, leadership, planning, implementing, evaluating and providing care of adult and geriatric clients.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  1. Manages and develops clinical staff to ensure comprehensive patient care with appropriate staffing levels. 2. Instructs and monitors staff in the delivery of patient care and ordered treatments including but not limited to vital signs, vascular assessments, wound assessments, dressing changes procedures and emergency procedures. 3. Evaluates and identifies needs regarding staffing, procedures, equipment, staff education and training toward the goals of quality improvement and outstanding customer service in collaboration with the Office Manager. 4. Establishes relationships with care navigators, social work and discharge planning teams to improve referral process for wound patients. 5. Provides continuity of care for patients in collaboration with physicians and center staff with accountability for planning, implementation and evaluation of comprehensive wound care involving multiple disciplines and sites of care. Provides oversight and evaluation of care given and intervenes as necessary. 6. Provides supervisory support to data systems and other information systems, maintaining a working knowledge of the systems to ensure accuracy and clinical data input, patient charges, clinical documentation and generation of monitoring reports. 7. Seeks out and obtains advanced knowledge, credentials, specialty exams and training/education for clinical/administrative/managerial role. Serves as a role model and educator. 8. Using the nursing process, demonstrates advanced knowledge, skills, and exercises clinical competence in the clinic setting including, but not limited to assessment, comprehensive wound evaluation, interpretation of diagnostic data, coordination of patient care, completion plan of care and all aspects of patient and family education. 9. Implements a quality improvement plan in collaboration with Office Manager, Medical Director and the physician staff. 10. Demonstrates advanced knowledge related to wound care by the ability to review cases for quality improvement, formulating, implementing, and evaluating plans for improvement. 11. In conjunction with the Office Manager, assists in fiscal responsibilities of clinic including creation of a budget and independent follow up to maintain operations within the established budget parameters and timely justification or explanation of variances to budget. 12. Remains current in practical knowledge of all regulatory and hospital guidelines, policies and procedures. Responsible for updating department policies and procedures and Joint Commission readiness. 13. Initiates and actively participates as a change agent to improve work environment, work process, or patient care including coaching, discipline, and performance appraisal of the center staff. 14. Assumes active leadership role by actively participating in staff meetings, medical meetings and department meetings. Participates in hospital meetings, as directed, to maintain communication between acute and ambulatory wound care. 15. Develops a plan of action to consistently manage operational issues. Follows proper channels of communication in the management of daily problems. Recognizes complex issues that may need referral to the director. 16. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education: Currently licensed Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio. Bachelor's degree preferred.

Skills: Must have ability to effectively manage multiple patient care and department tasks.

Years of Experience: 3-5 years direct wound care.

License: RN License

Certification: Must maintain CPR certification.
