Position Objective:
ITW Drawform & Sexton is a $200M USD Division within Illinois Tool Works' Automotive Segment. It has an excellent reputation for delivering top results and exceeding customer expectations within the deep draw and aerosol can industries. The Division has been granted a multi-year project that requires a Process Engineer to help execute the launch and, subsequently, the long-term electric vehicle development efforts within the division. This newly created position is a member of ITW Drawform & Sexton Division's new product launch team in the EV market and will require frequent interaction with both internal and external stakeholders.
The Industrial Engineer Intern will support the manufacturing area by developing a deep understanding of the customers' needs and application requirements, and then developing and implementing new processes for the EV operation. This work will primarily revolve around washing, packing, material movement, and staging of materials. The incumbent will have responsibility for all material from the point it enters the facility until the point it exits the facility.
Essential Functions:
Research, develop, and implement measurable production processes within the specified time frame, and recommend improvements and cost reduction strategies.
Assist in determining material handling, storage, and flow requirements.
Develop and maintain production layouts and prepare alternatives, checking engineering drawings, parts lists, and test sheets for accuracy and thoroughness
Organizing test data and present reports back to the engineering team
Participate in failure analysis and problem solving tactics in the context of functional reliability and engineering testing
Assist in customer contact and communication
Assist with capital expenditure planning, may manage vendors to meet timelines and budgets.
Support implementing appropriate process flows, bills of material, and FMEA's
Develop, document and maintain process plans and machine operating instructions.
Maintain and implement processes to support customer and internal specifications.
Coordinate the delivery, set-up and start-up of new equipment.
Develop and coordinate the preventative maintenance program.
Assist with the APQP process on new programs.
Present at the end of the term in front of a small group of people showcasing what was worked on.
Perform other duties as assigned or directed
Qualifications:
. Progress toward a bachelor's or advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mfg. Engineering, Industrial Engineering or related field
. Rising junior or above with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
. Previous experience in a manufacturing environment
. Experience in a metal stamping environment a plus
. Industrial engineering with some mechanical engineering ideal
. Familiarity with Solidworks and Autocad
. Passion for automotive, and an understanding of EV systems and requirements a plus
Preferred candidates will reside and/or attend college or university in the West Michigan area.

. Desire to learn, question, and research and troubleshoot solutions to problems.
. Ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders (equipment suppliers, outside engineers) to support project development activities.
. Ability to work independently, manage projects and complete assignments in a timely manner.
. Self-starter; works with minimal supervision; capable of offering up and making decisions.
. Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well the ability to utilize MS Teams to participate in meetings.
. Team-player with aptitude to learn the ITW culture and work within a fast-pace environment
