Development & Community Impact Internship

The American Heart Association's Internship Program - Interns of Impact - provides college students an opportunity for hands-on experience in various facets of fundraising campaigns and events, volunteer management, and community outreach. It will offer experience in the use of current business and development technologies, including the use of a PC computer and various software applications. Our internships offer the opportunity to gain professional experience with a national non-profit organization, further develop communication and presentation skills, and build experience in team collaboration and customer service.

  • Time Commitment: 20-25 hours per week

  • Internship Duration: Spring 2023 (16-week structured program beginning on January 17)

  • Hybrid Position (Virtual and Office)

Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in internship cohort meetings and complete project deliverables

  • Work alongside AHA staff on volunteer recruitment and management.

  • Assist with the coordination of Heart Ball Gala logistics including execution of vendor and venue agreements, auction item procurement and organization, assisting with invoice processing, scheduling and event timeline management and supply ordering and tracking management

  • Support active community programs through research and outreach initiatives

  • Assist with Heart & Stroke Walk company and walker activation activities

  • Assist with meeting preparation, development of communications and collateral and creative materials

  • Lead Heart Month (February) activities with local companies

  • Provide logistics, administrative and data management support for Development and Community Impact projects to support overall goals

  • Support Community Impact health fairs on site (can include weekends)

Qualifications

  • Effective oral, written and presentation communication skills

  • Ability to accomplish/complete a task with attention to detail

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment managing multiple priorities across departments

  • Ability to plan, produce and execute events

  • Meeting management and event management including set up, Outlook invitations, copies, catering, logistics and meeting minutes

  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint

  • Working knowledge of Canva, Animoto and Adobe Creative suite is a plus

  • Minimum availability 25hrs/wk, M-F between the hours of 8:30am-5pm.

  • Reliable WiFi and phone connection
