Work location: Southern Nuclear Plant Farley in Coloumbia, AL

JOB SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for providing excellence customer service and proactive technical expertise to facilitate the implementation of new applications, upgrades to existing applications, and support for interfaces between applications serving as primary point of contact and working with the SNC IT Applications Portfolio to support the fleet of three nuclear plants and the corporate office. These applications could span across all functional areas within the nuclear organization (e.g. Asset Management, Engineering, Radiation Protection & Chemistry, Document Management and Training).

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Systems Technology, Chemistry, Biology and/or Information Technology is preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer or Software Engineering is desired.

  • Working knowledge or education of Chemistry and/or Radiation Protection is advantageous and desirable.

  • Working knowledge and understanding of IT Service, Customer model and IT organizational roles / responsibilities which work together to serve customer needs.

  • Experience implementing, integrating, and supporting vendor application solutions is required

  • Experience supporting both Web and thick client solutions is preferred

  • Database experience with Oracle and/or Microsoft SQL is preferred

  • Familiarity with Windows 7, MS-Office 2010, and Windows Server 2008/2012 is required

  • Experience developing/managing SQL queries is required

  • Experience with applications in a Citrix environment is preferred

  • Nuclear plant application support experience is preferred

  • Application development experience in .NET, C#, C and/or JAVA is preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Primary Responsibilities include:

  • Ability to learn in a dynamic and fast paced environment. Must also be capable to learn computer applications in a quick and efficient manner

  • Performing primary system administration for servers or applications (support, requirements gathering, security, analysis, design, coding, implementation, maintenance, backups, troubleshooting, etc.)

  • Support the life-cycle management of software applications and systems within the portfolio through implementation, support, maintenance and retirement of applications to ensure maximum value and reduced cost.

  • Intermediate project Management experience with the ability to lead and manage IT staff and resources in accordance with IT Business Plan. For projects: Experience with planning and managing scope, schedule, and budget for defined deliverables in accordance with IT project management standards and in accordance with service level agreements at agreed upon budgets.

  • Provide routine desktop support, including installation, break/fix, general troubleshooting and client support.

  • Experience with being primary support for fleet applications which includes implementing, integrating, and supporting vendor application solutions.

  • Ability to perform application development in .NET, C#, C , JAVA and learn new languages as needed.

  • Ability to develop/manage SQL queries for report development.

  • Ability to effectively and clearly document steps/code changes.

  • Ability to develop, write, edit, review and organize technical documentation related to computer systems such as users' guides, technical manuals and instructional materials to ensure that the text can be understood by non-technical users.

  • Occasionally may be responsible for providing frontline maintenance (reactive, preventative, and quality assurance) support as well as backup maintenance/installation coverage related to the local network and associated equipment.

  • Occasional travel will be required (two to three times per year or less as needed).

Experience Requirements:

  • Experience with different types of Microsoft applications and general broad knowledge of IT to troubleshoot application issues reported by the business (computers, networks, Windows servers, packaged applications, etc.).

  • Ability to provide on-call support.

  • Candidate must be knowledgeable in hardware/network troubleshooting

  • Basic programming skills with, C , .NET, VB and Java Scripting, Linux and SQL, C#, PHP

  • Experience with TCP/IP Network communications use of VoIP and Microsoft Server system administration

  • Although rare, the candidate must possess the ability to work in plant conditions that may include limited exposure to radiation and/or radioactive contamination

  • Demonstrate personal computing skills (i.e. Word, Excel, Access, etc.)

  • Successful completion of Southern Nuclear Background Investigation (including credit history/check) is required for employment

  • Participation in Random Drug/Alcohol Testing is a requirement of employment

  • Establish highly credible relationship with customers and team members.
