This opportunity is open to juniors, seniors, and graduate students pursuing a career in data management or Cloud DevOps .This internship opportunity will provide the applicant with data management experience , cloud cost analysis experience with progressive responsibility and experience . This will be in support of the various missions at the EROS (Earth Resources Observation and Science) Center (http://eros.usgs.gov/), located near Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Th is is a hybrid position at the EROS Center 2-3 days per week and as the project requires.
T his position will be part-time position at 20 hours a week.
Core Responsibilities:
The Data Management and Cloud DevOps Intern is responsible for Supporting data management activities across the data lifecycle.
Communicate and coordinate activities and technical status with your mentor, supervisor, Project Lead, and other Project team members, as appropriate .
Ensure all data management activities are conducted in accordance with standards and best practices.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite:This is essential for basic data manipulation and analysis in Excel.
Database Management Systems:Familiarity with any SQL and experience with platforms like PostgreSQL is desired .
Data Analysis:Basic understanding of statistical concepts and experience with tools like Tableau is a plus .
Data Visualization:Ability to create clear and informative charts and graphs using tools like Tableau and Excel .
Cost Analysis: Ability to use AWS Cost Explorer or CloudCheckr to create custom cost reports manually or through scripts using published APIs.
Strong Attention to Detail:Data management requires accuracy and a keen eye for errors.
Document Management: Ability to manage SharePoint document library and ensure meta data is accurate and up to date.
Problem-Solving Skills:Ability to identify and address data quality issues and workflow inefficiencies.
Communication Skills:Excellent written and verbal communication to collaborate with team members and stakeholders.
Curiosity and Learnability:Eagerness to learn new tools and technologies in the ever-evolving data landscape.
Education : Working towards a master's degree in S tatistics, I nformation T echnology, L ibrary S cience, Computer Science, Math, or other applicable field of stud y after completing a bach elor's degree.
Experience : 1 - 3 year's related experience in data management , data analysis, data visualization , and cloud cost analysis is desired. Experience with geospatial data, geographic data formats ( Shapefile, KML, GeoJSON ) is a plus.

Experience writing SQL queries to retrieve information from relational database systems
Experience using functions in Exce l
Experience creating custom AWS cloud cost reports (1-3 years)
Experience managing a SharePoint document library (1-3 years)
Desired Skills:
Project Management Skills:Ability to independently manage small projects and timelines.
Postgre SQL experience
Knowledge of the Data Life Cycle
Experience with remote sensing, geographic information systems , and basic geography concepts such as map projections
C andidates must have strong technical knowledge, excellent communication skills, and a teamwork emphasis. Candidates must also be able to integrate into a highly skilled t eam . The candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a national agency check and background investigation after hire to obtain a badge for facility access and user accounts. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
. Three years of continuous residency in the US for issuance of a Government Security credential
. The candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a national agency check and background investigation after hire to obtain a badge for government facility access and user account
Experience and/or Education in lieu of these qualifications will be reviewed for applicability to meet these requirements.
