Job Summary

Dominion Energy is seeking a 2022 Undergraduate Student Summer Intern to be a part of the Electric Transmission Planning & Strategic Initiatives team. The selected candidate will provide technical support and facility rating work to the transmission planners and the transmission modeling group. Candidates should have an engineering background and possess strong knowledge of engineering principles and practices, preferably in electric power systems. A working knowledge and ability to read and interpret substation and transmission one-line diagrams is preferred.

Job activities may include:

  • Participate in the Electric Transmission project process to manage new and existing equipment ratings across the system

  • Track upcoming projects that require facility ratings adjustments and review project one-line diagrams and facility rating notifications

  • Support the maintenance of new and existing conductor ratings, equipment types, substations and lines, and facility ratings methodologies, job aids, and other documents/tools

  • Facility Ratings modeling: Implement active and pending ratings in the Facility Ratings Database

  • Assisting in the development, maintenance, and enhancement of facility rating computer-based tools for the Electric Transmission Planning team

  • Power System Network Model Validation, Merging and Management.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

  • Student must be enrolled in 4-year ABET accredited engineering program or in a 2-year program with intent to transfer to 4-year institution in an ABET accredited engineering.

  • Electrical Engineering , Computer Engineering, Industrial Systems Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering disciplines preferred

  • Candidates must have a graduation date of Spring 2025.

  • Candidates must have a 2.5 GPA or greater.

  • Candidates must possess a valid driver's license and be able to drive a company vehicle.

  • General understanding of AC/DC fundamentals, and including an understanding of three-phase power systems, the power grid, and the electric transmission system

  • General knowledge and understanding of substation components and their functions

  • Must possess good communication skills, written and oral

  • Ability to read and interpret substation and transmission one-line diagrams and relay functional drawings is preferred

  • Self-motivator who can work cooperatively in a team environment, but is comfortable independently seeking knowledge and information
