JMT is seeking a Project Engineer to join the Syracuse, New York office. The Project Engineer is responsible for leading and supporting transportation design projects including traffic signals, roadway corridor and intersections, and complete streets. The Project Engineer will use knowledge of general engineering principles and practices to interpret, organize, execute, and coordinate assignments.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Perform engineering tasks in the transportation infrastructure field through application of relevant design criteria, standards, and processes.
Perform alternative studies
Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, aerial photography and other topographical or geologic data to plan projects
Perform analysis and design of highway geometry
Perform analysis and design of highway drainage
Prepare design plans and details
Develop construction cost estimates and write specifications
Coordinate with internal team members to ensure project completion by the defined deadline and established quality
Perform analysis and design of traffic capacity and service
Assist with field work including surveying, data collection, and construction inspection
Writing technical reports
Development of recommended construction contract documents
Coordinate directly with clients including presenting at meetings
Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities
Required Skills
Experience working with CADD software (Bentley preferred) and traffic engineering modeling (Synchro or HCS)
Proficiency using a PC Office Suite (Word Processing, Spreadsheets)
Knowledge of design and drafting procedures
General knowledge of survey
Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and estimates
Strong analytical, writing, and public speaking skills
Required Experience
Minimum 8 years' experience in the above listed functions and responsibilities
Registration as a Professional Engineer in New York State or demonstrate the ability to obtain such registration within one year of employment
Active motor vehicle driver's license
Working Conditions
Work is performed primarily within a general office environment with occasional field visitations. Ability to extensively perform bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 lbs as needed. Work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
