Job Summary

Dominion Energy seeks candidates for a Sr Software Systems Engineer position located in Richmond, Virginia. Position responsibilities include supporting a SCADA system used to operate and monitor the generation of electrical power systems and other assets. A broad knowledge and/or willingness to learn a variety of skills from configuration, programming, automation, business operations etc. will be required.

It is essential the successful applicant be a highly motivated self-starter that can and will be responsible for their work with minimal direction and supervision. Works independently, this role formulates or defines specifications for complex software programming applications or modifies/maintains complex existing code. Responsibilities include working with an application dealing with the overall operating system and being complex in operation and activities. Candidate works at the highest technical level on all phases of software systems programming applications. Candidate is responsible for working with an individual business unit on multi-project assignments.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Support SCADA system across Dominions electrical system.

  • Support various Server OS, Win 08 - 19, Linux systems and operations

  • Support and create programs using C, C++, scripting (Python, PERL, etc.)

  • Support security of technical data and systems to NERC, NIST, or other compliant standards.

  • Supports business functions of the Generation Systems so knowledge of electrical systems and how generation works is a plus.

  • Support of data centers spanning two primary sites operating as a single logical unit using Cisco, VMware, and F5 technologies.

  • Support of data center and WAN network to support management of power generation stations running an OSI software solution. Integrated with network built around IP, analog, and ICCP connections compliant with NERC/CIP standards

  • Support VLan creation and management.

  • Design sets of complex secure networks supporting the electric system control centers. Unified systems included dedicated systems among other NERC/CIP regulated systems.

  • Monitor and tune performance of SCADA system for Dominion's generation fleet

  • Connect modern technologies to existing SCADA system with a variety of protocols

  • Support systems using NERC CIP standards

  • Support various systems to get evidence out for Cyber Security awareness

  • Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation

  • Plan, design, implement, enhance, and maintain complex systems

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

  • 5+ years of directly related experience

  • 3+ years of SCADA programming experience

  • Experience in Windows Operating System and Linux/Unix system at proficient and real-world experience.

  • Detailed analysis of Firewall security system rules management and creation

  • Understand and analyze detailed logs of the OS and software systems to get to core of various software.

  • Knowledgeable in C, CC++, Python, Java, etc.

  • Knowledge of Electrical Operations and/or Power Generation a plus

  • Knowledge of SCADA and the design principles of control system a plus.

  • Knowledge of reporting systems that ensure electrical systems are running efficiently a plus.

  • Military service members and veterans with ranks from E5-E9, W1-CW5, or O3-O6 plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience as outlined above.
