The American Heart Association has an excellent opportunity for an Compliance Operations Manager, Research/Data in our National Center office located in Dallas, TX (flexible work arrangements available)

This position will handle multiple areas of compliance for Association Research and provide scientific and technical consultation. This position provides support in research resource management and technical administration of our key initiatives. They will facilitate teamwork, data sharing, and generate resources, for the purpose of accelerating discovery related to cardiovascular and brain health.

Responsibilities

  • Supports American Heart Association Research grant applicants, grant awardees and staff with technical competence related to data management, the selection and use of repositories for curation of datasets of varying size and complexity, and scientific expertise in cardiovascular and brain health research.

  • Evaluates and maintains information and accurate data for compliance requirements and internal reporting needs.

  • Develops content and provides training and consultation to facilitate collaboration, data management, and data-sharing across American Heart Association awards and improves reproducibility of studies

  • Supervises the research output compliance workflow to ensure that research outputs (including publications and preprints) adhere to standard processes for open science and the data are shared for maximum impact.

  • Coordinates with American Heart Association Compliance staff for policy and procedure management

  • Serves as liaison with other Association departments on data sharing and related issues

Qualifications

  • Master's required, PhD preferred in a field related to biomedicine, data science, or related field. In all cases, experience with acquisition and management of research-derived datasets as well as standards related to their use, sharing and storage.

  • Four (4) years of experience with and understanding of scientific research (cardiovascular or brain health)

  • Three (3) years of experience with and understanding of scientific data management

  • A knowledge base and consultation experience to enable American Heart Association researchers to handle, share, and reuse research data

  • Proficiency in translating sophisticated scientific topics into non-technical language.

  • Ability to think through and work on sophisticated issues critically and strategically.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills.

Preferred Experience

  • Two (2) years of experience conducting training for scientist/researchers

  • Compliance management

  • Two (2) years of experience working with technical vendors and external partners

  • Two (2) years of experience with managing open science policies and concepts
