JOB SUMMARY
Analytical Solutions, a part of the Corporate Development & Analysis group, plays a key role in company-wide decision making by leveraging its expertise in quantitative modeling, risk analysis, optimization, and simulation. As a member of the Analytical Solutions/Corporate Development & Analysis group, the quantitative financial analyst is responsible for supporting the Manager in meeting the business objectives.
Business objectives of the group include:
Analytics for SCS Treasury, Finance, and Risk Control
Risk assessment and quantification for investment and operational decisions
Analytics for corporate level strategic and tactical decisions
Risk identifications, market studies, and business development opportunities analysis
Collaboration with other business units where quantitative/risk analysis and mitigation have value
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Support on an as-needed basis the research, modeling and analytical needs of the Corporate
Development & Analysis group. Areas of support will include industry research (e.g., stock performance, cost of capital, dividend, etc.), financial modeling (e.g., cash flow, credit, EPS) and project analysis.
Support the development, design, testing and implementation of financial and statistical models to identify, measure, and monitor risks associated with the Company's business activities. Areas of support will include risk assessment and analysis related to interest rate risk, commodity price risk, and other types of financial risks as they impact Southern Company and its subsidiaries.
Collaborate with other business units where quantitative and or risk analysis and mitigation have value.
For example, setting appropriate insurance premium based on simulated exposure; articulating credit risk tolerance based on default probability, credit exposure, and survival rate.
Manage and maintain equity dashboard and related weekly publication of Equity Insights using Microsoft Power BI.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education:
Experience/Skills:
Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills.
Ability to clearly communicate information verbally and in writing.
Experience with Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, Word and PowerPoint along with an ability to learn new computer applications rapidly.
Strong multi-tasking and project management skills.
Ability to work as an effective member of a team.
Knowledge of Microsoft Power BI.
Knowledge of statistics and predictive modeling techniques.
Knowledge of probability and stochastic processes underlying option pricing theory.
