The Opportunity

The Portfolio Insights and Financial Analysis team is responsible for creating new, modifying existing, and performing ad-hoc reporting in support of business processes and data-driven decision making. Develops a deep understanding of the business/customer and builds positive collaborations. Delivers value through data analysis and reporting and adapts to changing business needs. The right candidate will have the following:

  • Outstanding analytical skills required

  • Ability to construct and maintain models applying large data sets that inform strategic decision-making

  • Deep understanding of business case lifecycle management concepts (quantifying benefits, measuring returns, tracking results, effectively challenging business assumptions).

  • Sound understanding of financial metrics used to measure investments: ROI, IRR, and NPV. Required

  • Tableau, familiarity with USAA UDA management practices, experience with reporting and leading USAA expense & headcount

  • Proficient with Essbase and Hyperion planning tools.

Lead Financial Analyst position is a hybrid work type and can be based in one of the following locations: Charlotte, NC or San Antonio, TX; Hybrid roles help employees gain the best of both worlds - collaborating in-person in the office and working from home when needed to achieve focused results

What you'll do:

  • Identifies and leads existing and emerging risks that stem from business activities and the job role.

  • Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled.

  • Follows written risk and compliance policies, standards, and procedures for business activities.

  • Leads, develops, and motivates the team to provide advanced analytics and insights around key business drivers.

  • Anticipates opportunities to solve the most complex and / or unique business problems, providing proactive financial solutions with well-rounded and forward-looking perspectives to enable better decision making by senior management.

  • Consistently interacts with senior management becoming their trusted advisor on all financial issues.

  • Makes recommendations to solve short-term, as well as strategic financial business problems.

  • Instructs and mentors others about complex financial processes, business drivers and systems ensuring information sharing and knowledge transfer.

  • Reviews analysts work and assists management in assigning tasks and managing workflow.

  • Leads initiatives to develop an integrated enterprise planning process from multiple companies and/or staff agency processes and technologies.

  • Directs analyses and guides the development, enhancement, and implementation of critical processes, programs, and technologies.

  • Anticipates opportunities and potential solutions, leads cross-functional teams through the problem resolution process, and advises senior management on issues.

  • Acquires and applies experienced knowledge of the business, its products and processes.

  • Performs sophisticated and often unique work assignments and problem resolution across multiple systems, functions, or processes.

What you have:

  • Bachelor's degree; OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.

  • 8 years financial/accounting analysis experience to include 2 years leading strategic financial/accounting opportunities. OR Advanced degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field, progress towards a CPA or CFA designation, and 6 years of financial / accounting analysis experience to include 1 year leading strategic financial/accounting opportunities.

  • Subject-matter-expert knowledge of data analysis and relevant technical accounting/finance skill required.

  • Subject-matter-expert level of discernment in the areas of the financial services operations, finance/accounting industry practices and emerging trends required.

  • Experience communicating complex financial/accounting topics to a broad range of audiences.

  • Experience using financial/accounting technologies and proposing recommendations for improvements.

  • Experience using Microsoft Office Excel for significant financial data analysis and reporting.

  • Experience in the application and adherence to financial regulations and compliance.

  • Experience producing financial reports and providing recommendations based on data.

  • Working knowledge of GAAP.

What we offer:

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location. The salary range for this position is: $104,660 - $199,970.

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
