Serco is looking for an experienced and enthusiastic team member to join a high-profile and challenging project supporting the US Navy. The Jr. Systems Administrator will be serving on a dynamic team, supporting autonomous surface vessels at our client's site at Naval Information Warfare Center Pacific (NIWC PAC).

This position is contingnet upon your ability to obtain/maintain an active Security Clearance.

You will be part of a team that works closely with the customer and other Serco team members to deliver high technology Naval systems. You will provide technical support for our customer as part of an integrated team both on-site in San Diego, CA and by telework.

In this role, you will:

  • Perform system integration, network administration and remote operation both on Test Control Vessels (TCV), along with from a remote operating station on Point Loma NIWC PAC.

  • Work closely with a small department of network engineering staff during underway operations to ensure autonomous vessels leave the pier correctly, operate within correct parameters from a network/autonomy perspective, and then return to port in a safe manner.

  • Assist with the instruction of personnel with lesser experience to provide oversight.

  • Ensure autonomous vessels remain operational for future autonomous operations to include preventative maintenance, network upgrades, and repairs as required.

  • Identifying problem areas that may affect future underways and testing.

  • Participate in crew transfers while underway from TCVs to and from autonomous surface vessels to include operations of Rigid Hull Inflatable Boats (RHIB) as required.

  • Provide network environment and advanced level computing environment support.

  • Maintain data files and monitors system configuration to ensure data integrity.

  • Install, configure, and maintain computer systems.

  • Review design release documents for completeness, proper approvals, and system updates, to ensure correct configuration modifications.

  • Perform software installations.

  • Troubleshoot systems and applications to identify and correct malfunctions and other operational difficulties.

  • Investigate, recommend, and install enhancements and operating procedures that optimize network availability.

  • Maintain confidentiality regarding the information being processed, stored or accessed by the network.

  • Document network problems and resolutions for future reference.

  • Analyze and resolve technical problems for established networks and associated systems.

  • Plan, test, recommend, and implement workstation hardware and software.

  • Work with vendors to resolve complex system and/or application problems.

  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities assigned by the Govt. sponsor or Serco Management.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Bachelor's degree plus 0 -2 years of directly related experience. In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for comparable work experience. Work experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology.

  • Has a clear understanding of autonomous systems on board Medium Displacement Unmanned Surface Vessels (MDUSV).

  • Ability to work in a maritime environment within various sea states that will require subjectivity to harsh elements during inclement weather.

  • Excellent technical and analytical skills.

  • Familiar with the principles, practices, and procedures used in network engineering and systems administration.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work onsite with technical and non-technical personnel.

  • Ability to travel to CONUS or OCONUS region with little notice. It is expected this position may require up to 50% of travel.

  • Ability to maintain a SECRET clearance and pass a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI). Current SECRET is required at the time of employment.
