This Senior Electrical Engineer position is a key member of the Electrical Development team at MTS Test & Simulation. Engineers in this team are responsible for developing and supporting a wide range of electrical products focused on high performance motion control and precision data acquisition. Our controllers enable MTS Test & Simulation systems to achieve world class performance, safety, and reliability for our customers' most challenging mechanical testing needs. As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will provide technical leadership of all product development aspects from project scope definition to architecture design and formulation, implementation, test and release. Example responsibilities include electrical architecture, circuit board development, programmable logic design, and overall implementation of embedded hardware and firmware for control electronics and data acquisition systems.

Major Areas of Accountability:

  1. Embedded hardware engineering leadership of concept development, design, implementation, and product support of real-time control and data acquisition platform products

  2. Low noise, high precision, mixed signal circuit design (data conversion, amplification, digital processing)

  3. Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA filtering/downsampling, Intel Quartus, Verilog, and SystemVerilog)

  4. Leader of overall system architecture design with ability to present concepts to peers and leadership and generate confidence and acceptance

  5. Digital signal processing and digital filter design, including MATLAB DSP Builder

  6. Schematic capture & PCB design (Altium)

  7. Embedded firmware and microprocessor programming

  8. Defining and developing custom hardware/software interfaces

  9. Digital Communication and third-party interfaces, including EtherCAT

  10. Assisting and leading documentation and processes that conform with ISO quality objectives

Education & Experience

. Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (Master's preferred) from an ABET accredited institution

. 9+ years of progressively demanding electrical engineering experience

. Capable of performing 7 or more major areas of accountability

. Demonstrated technical expertise and domain experience in motion control and embedded systems

. Ability to work with minimal supervision and team effectively with others

. Able to successfully handle ambiguity and make good decisions with incomplete data

. Responsive and willing to take ownership of issues and drive solutions

. Creative problem solver capable of developing pragmatic solutions when presented with conflicting requirements, business demands and technical risks/issues

. Working knowledge of product development methodologies and stage-gate development processes

Travel Requirements

. Occasional travel, both domestic and international, not more than 10%
