Job Description

JMT is seeking an Engineering Technician to join the Syracuse, New York office. The Engineering Technician will provide direct support to transportation design units. The candidate will be tasked with design support activities across all phases of a typical transportation infrastructure project including scoping, preliminary design, detailed design, and construction support.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Produce 3D geolocated parametric CADD models from concepts, sketches, record plans, and geographic information system data

  • Produce construction contract drawings for typical transportation projects (highway, bridge, landscape, environmental, traffic) following New York State Department of Transportation CADD standards

  • Makes basic engineering computations and prepares and revises specifications.

  • Make quality control corrections to contract drawings

  • Prepare exhibits for reports, public meetings or presentations

  • Assist with field work including surveying, bridge inspection and construction inspection

  • Assist with environmental sampling (Water, soil, etc)

Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Required Skills

  • Experience working with CADD software (Bentley preferred)

  • Knowledge of design and drafting procedures

  • General knowledge of survey

  • Proficient with document processors and spreadsheets

  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and estimates

Required Experience

  • An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a relevant field accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology's Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission (ABET/ETAC)

OR

  • Two or more years or relevant experience performing technical activities in the areas of civil design, surveying, bridge inspection, or construction inspection

AND

  • Active motor vehicle driver's License

Working Conditions

Work is performed primarily within a general office environment with occasional field visitations. Ability to extensively perform bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 lbs as needed. Work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
