Southern Company Internal Auditing has a team dedicated to leveraging and expanding the use of data analytics and digital labor called IDEAS (Integration of Digital Empowerment and Analytic Solutions). The IDEAS team objectives are:

  • Development and Execution of a strategic data governance process

  • Driving the evolution and improvement of decision making through new methods and technologies

  • Facilitate and enhance an information driven decision-making culture

  • Supporting internal and external customers through data driven solutions

  • Execution of training and programs for data literacy throughout organization

JOB DESCRIPTION

This position is responsible for understanding issues and providing data related solutions through collecting, cleaning, analyzing, interpreting and presenting data in order to answer questions, support findings and solve problems.

Responsibilities also include designing technical solutions to automate business processes and build automations as well as creating and executing tests to evaluate functional and non-functional performance of solutions. Developing an understanding current data state, workflows and processes and developing solutions for integrations, transformations, and deliverables will also be key focus areas of the position. This will include data analysis and data visualization to meet internal (internal auditors) and external (business unit leaders) customers' requirements.

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Business Acumen:

  • Work with the Technology Organization (TO) to obtain and organize data

  • Assist management in decision making supported by data analytics to improve processes and communicate results

  • Support auditors in the design and execution of tests to ensure processes are followed correctly

  • Analyze and interpret data to identify process gaps.

  • Leverage data visualization to communicate results in an efficient and effective manner

  • Work with various stakeholders to communicate and implement process improvements.

  • Analyze and visually communicate financial and non-financial data to help drive business decisions

  • Proactively review trends to understand and communicate macro and enterprise level risks.

  • Design technical solutions to automate business processes and build automations

  • Create and execute tests to evaluate functional and non-functional performance of solutions

  • Document and update solution designs throughout the automation life cycle

  • Partner with Technology Organization to maintain code and troubleshoot and resolve incidents in the production environment

  • Collaborate with a business to work directly with clients to define requirements, explore solutions, and assess the technical feasibility of RPA for the given problem

  • Meet with customers to gather additional requirements detail or resolve incidents in production

  • Adhere to best practices and participate in team meetings to further mature standards and practices of the development team

  • Provide feedback to other developers by performing reviews and technical design reviews

  • Evaluate change requests to determine approach and level of effort and communicate it back to either the team or customer

Engagement:

  • Ensure tasks and deliverables are completed on time

  • Lead team efforts to identify solutions to resolve known issues

  • Build and sustain relationships with stakeholders across all levels of the company

  • Evaluate and understand the business to assist in identifying and monitoring a variety of strategic, financial, operational and compliance risks

  • Apply business acumen, including audit and analytic skills, in all aspects of the job

  • Promote cooperation and foster teamwork to accomplish objectives

  • Manage time effectively, work efficiently and meet project deadlines and budget, including monitoring hours to assist in meeting departmental goals and metrics

  • Provide quality assurance for work performed and ensure work conforms to Professional Standards established by the Institute of Internal Auditors

  • Produce workable solutions to a range of problems and contribute new ideas

REQUIREMENTS

Education and Certification:

  • Bachelor's degree is required, preferably in Technology, Accounting or Finance

  • Advanced degree is a plus

OR

  • Equivalent academic education and experience

Experience:

  • Minimal 2 years work experience

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize work successfully in a team setting

  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects and mentor others

  • Advanced understanding of data analytic and data visualization practices

  • Experience using PowerBI Suite, Alteryx, Azure, and RPA development tools (i.e. Blue Prism)

  • Experience providing predictive analytics as well as data visualization

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Effective project management skills, including time management and work plan development

  • Advanced data analytics and data visualization skills

  • Effective oral and written communication skills

  • Effective interpersonal and organizational skills

  • Intermediate to advanced skills with Microsoft Office suite of tools (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PowerBI) Ability to work in a team environment as an individual contributor or independently with self confidence

  • Ability to adapt to changing demands and manage competing priorities

  • Understanding of risk management, internal controls, and governance
