AV Systems Design Engineer - Colorado Springs, CO

This cleared AV Systems Design Engineer position will support the buildup and modernization of facilities across Colorado Springs by integrating Audio Visual systems in secure DoD environments.

The AV System Design Engineer evaluates, designs, documents, installs, implements, tests, performs problem isolation and resolution, monitors, tunes, sets standards and maintains a range of Audio/Video and Video Teleconferencing (VTC) components and systems.

In this role, you will:

  • Performs these functions per project requirements and equipment including: audio and video switchers, video display devices (projectors, TV Monitors, Plasma Monitors, Video Wall), H.320 multi-point control units, bridges, H.323 gateways, computer display interfaces, and telecommunications transport facilities.

  • Provide client consulting and training on control, interfaces, and use of the Audio/Video and VTC equipment. Research, evaluate, and recommend new Audio/Video and VTC equipment and technologies.

  • Utilizes monitoring, performance analysis, software and hardware equipment to trouble shoot and isolate problems, gauge performance, and record activity.

  • Devises solutions to complex operation problems within the capacity and operational limitations of installed equipment.

  • Performs a variety of tasks, may lead and direct the work of others.

  • A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

  • Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department.

  • Works with little day-to-day direction.

Qualifications

To be eligible for this role, you must:

  • Possess an ACTIVE DoD Secret level security clearance

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Math, Electrical Engineering, or Information Technology (or 4 years related experience)

Additional desired experience and skills:

  • Certification: InfoComm/Avixa CTS-D Certification (Design Specialization)

Experience Requirements:

  • At least seven years of AV design experience for DoD multi-classification environments

  • At least five years of experience with ThinkLogical and Extron AV matrix routing and signal extension solutions

  • At least five years of experience with Crestron control systems design and integration

  • Demonstrate knowledge of current AV-related DoD security policy, procedures and approved products

  • Demonstrate knowledge of industry best practices in audio, video and control systems design/integration for conference rooms, operation center watch floors, training rooms, and VIP offices

  • Ability to develop Installation Design Packages (IDPs) with assistance of an AutoCAD drafter that meet NIWC Shore Installation Process Handbook (SIPH) standards

  • Ability to work with DoD customers, other engineering discipline leads (IT/IS/IA) and stakeholders to gather requirements and translate to design

  • Draft Course of Action (CoA) briefs, technical point papers and other artifacts for high-level decision makers

  • Author Pre-Installation Check Out (PITCO), System Operational Verification Test (SOVT) and training documentation

  • Schedule and conduct design reviews and testing activities

  • Provide issue/change tracking

Physical Requirements:

  • May require climbing ladders, working at heights, and working in confined spaces such as under raised floors.

  • Sit, stoop, kneel or crouch for long periods of time.

  • Work in noisy areas with hotter and colder temperature than standard office environmental conditions.

  • Lift and transport equipment up to 50 pounds.

  • Must be able to operate general office equipment, which includes telephone, copier, and PC/laptop.

  • Operate hand tools, power tools, ladders, and test equipment.

  • May require operating motor vehicles.

Schedule / Attendance:

  • Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is mandatory

  • Position may require working night and weekend shifts

  • Report in accordance with policies for essential and non-essential personnel during inclement weather

  • Must have reliable transportation to Peterson Space Force Base
