KBR has an immediate need for an energetic and dynamic Mid-Senior Linux Systems Administrator in support of the United States Geological Survey (USGS) Earth Resources Observation & Science (EROS) Center (http://eros.usgs.gov/) near Sioux Falls, SD (http://www.siouxfalls.org).

The EROS Information Technology Services Division (ITSD) has an opening for a Mid-Senior Linux Systems Administrator. This position is an integral part of a diverse team, with primary responsibilities for leading technical operational support for both Windows and Unix / Linux environments (primarily Linux). The candidate must be able to lead work and mentor with a team of highly skilled Systems Administrators and other Information Technology staff.

The Mid-Senior Linux Systems Administrator will have technical responsibility for operational support, administration and maintenance of enterprise services and systems. Additional responsibilities include researching and advising on new technologies as well as providing support and system administration for services. Excellent communication skills and proven leadership skills are required for this position. Occasional travel may be required.

Education: Minimum of an AA in Computer Science; BS/BA preferred.

Experience: Minimum of six years of directly-related technical, professional experience required.

Required Skills:

  • Provide higher-level Windows and Unix / Linux systems administration support to maintain all compute infrastructure in accordance with appropriate system requirements.

  • Manage, support, and maintain Linux and Windows systems (emphasis on Linux skills)

  • Install, upgrade, and maintain virtual and physical Linux based systems

  • Manage system backups, restore, and recovery

  • Manage user accounts, groups, and services

  • Manage and maintain storage

  • Work with users to resolve account/system issues

  • Provide support to users on basic and advanced server tasks

  • Mentor other Systems Administration team members

  • Perform vulnerability remediation, with an emphasis on automation

  • Help troubleshoot problems with Linux servers, running various distros including Red Hat, Rocky, Oracle, Ubuntu, and CentOS

  • Engage in continuous testing of new Linux versions and applications

  • Support Configuration and Change control

  • Help automate server maintenance, including running scripts and automated processes

  • Maintain server uptime and network performance

  • Assist with server and standard operating procedure documentation

  • Ensure all administrative procedures are followed

  • Document all server incidents and outages

  • Collaborate with business stakeholders

  • Experience with multiple storage technologies.

  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to complete tasks with a high degree of accuracy.

  • Excellent understanding of and experience with VMware, Microsoft Windows, Linux, and Active Directory required.

  • Ensure all systems and networks comply with USGS computer and network security requirements, i.e. STIG

  • Ability to work well within a team, possessing a good team spirit, as well as demonstrated self-management and flexibility in taking on new challenges.

Other Desired Skills:

  • Exceptional customer service skills. Identify and understand client needs to ensure a successful outcome to customer requests.

  • RHCSA or other Linux certification is desired

  • AWS Certification is desired

  • ITIL framework for Service Management

  • Knowledge of Agile/SCRUM project management is highly desired

  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills with the ability to plan and achieve a variety of tasks. Able to set priorities and deal with a number of issues and deadlines concurrently.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Three years of continuous residency in the US for issuance of a Government Security credential

  • The candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a national agency check and background investigation after hire to obtain a badge for government facility access and user account

Experience and/or Education in lieu of these qualifications will be reviewed for applicability to meet these requirements.
