SAIC is looking for a Wildland Fire Program Coordinator to support one of our NASA programs. This position is in Washington, D.C. at NASA Headquarters. NASA Earth Science Division is prioritizing improvements in the prediction, management, and the understanding of overall impacts of wildfires within the United States and around the world. This includes research, technology development, and application in wildland fire science and management which all are being coordinated under the new Wildland Fire Earth Action Area. Under this new Earth Action Area, efforts are focused on delivering NASA's unique Earth science and technological capabilities to operational fire management agencies and organizational, striving towards measurable improvement in wildland fire science and management.
The Earth Action Wildland Fire Program Coordinator will work closely with the Wildland Fire Program Manager in the planning, organization, and execution of the Earth Action activities in wildland fire research and application within the NASA Earth Science Division. This includes programs such as the Applied Sciences Wildland Fire Program, the FireSense Project, as well as the integrated multi-mission directorate Wildland Fire Initiative. This will require interfacing with NASA Headquarters leadership and partners in the academic and stakeholder communities as well as coordination across the various NASA centers that perform and implement wildfire research.
Job Description:
Representing the application area in external and internal ESD, Earth Action, and Research Analysis Program discussions; assist and facilitate discussions and develop input for short- and long-term strategic plans for the area of wildland fires.
Provide leadership to the wildland fire Earth Action area; Manage new projects funded under the Wildfire Earth Action program element.
Assess and further opportunities for collaboration with partner organizations and private sector entities, represent the application areas, and support outreach and engagement.
Maintain knowledge of challenges and trends in the wildland fire community.
Assess pathways beyond ROSES solicitations for private sector engagement, and Assist the Program Manager in strategic planning, routine program, and project management activities such as organizing and running grants proposal review panels, preparing grants award documents, holding status review meetings, and running community workshops and sessions at professional conferences.
Track, analyze, and communicate the performance of projects and program elements including summaries of results and issues.
Act as point of contact for the coordination of the communication efforts of wildfire Earth Action area to the NASA ESD communications team.
Track actions and prepare responses to requests from Division and Program leadership.
Support preparations for the annual Team meeting related to the Wildland Fire Earth Action Area.
Assess processes and practices to identify opportunities for improved efficiency and effectiveness.

Desired Experience:
Two years of experience working with NASA Earth Science Division Leadership.
Experience overseeing complex program and projects in areas relevant to the NASA Earth Science Division.
Experience in outreach activities related to scientists and other stakeholders.
Familiarity with interagency efforts in the federal government coordinated through the White House Office of Science Technology Policy (e.g., U.S. Global Change Research Program).
Familiarity with the organization and general operation of the NASA Earth Science Division.
