The HSP organization manages Azure's hardware roadmap from concept through production for all of Microsoft's current and future cloud services. Well-defined and executed strategic planning ensures products meet the requirements for performance, features, and time-to-market. The ability to draw insights from a deep understanding of the cloud HW Infrastructure landscape and industry trends is critical in informing the roadmap and planning decisions.
As a Principal Hardware Product Manager, you will play a key role indefining and delivering the roadmap for the hardware infrastructure thatpowersthe Microsoft Cloud.You will be responsible for driving cross-functional decision-making teams to deliver the strategy and roadmap for Microsoft's Cloud Hardware. This role will have a focus on Azure Compute and SaaS (i.e. M365, Data, Bing) solutions, and you will have opportunities to influence the hardware roadmap across a broad range of Microsoft's cloud businesses. Responsibilities
You'll be expected to collaborate and drive efforts across multiple engineering groups (business units) within Microsoft and external technology providers and organizations; success will be achieved by collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet or exceeding business unit requirements with technical solutions, as well as developing and putting in place processes and methods that bring about efficient collaboration and decision making within Microsoft and Azure. You'll need to have both excellent project management and people skills paired with technical depth and passion. Some of your responsibilities will be to:
Collaborate with technology providers to understand their portfolios
Partner with internal stakeholders in engineering, supply chain, finance and business groups to drive a competitive and executable hardware roadmap strategy for Azure hardware infrastructure.
Lead cross-functional teams to define, prioritize, and implement features, infrastructure, processes, and workflows.
Scope technical and business problems and processes by identifying key issues, inputs, stakeholders, and outcomes.
Responsible for effective communication and escalation of risks and dependencies while ensuring timely decisions are being made.
Be comfortable interacting with senior leadership, providing recommendations to support product level decisions.
Operate effectively in ambiguity. Apply process where it creates value, and design process where it's needed. Recognize the situations where each approach is most appropriate.
Mentor, enable,and grow Product Managers within the team.
Perform roadmap scenario modeling, financial modeling, and market analysis for the recommended HW platform factoring in performance, features, cost, and time-to-market tradeoffs.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
BS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or similar field, OR corresponding technical experience.
8+ years industry experience in Server, CPU, Memory, or Storage technology development.
Knowledge of server technology and computer architecture
Knowledge of cloud datacenter architecture
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Deep technical understanding of CPU architecture, design, and development, with emphasis on power and performance analysis
Deep technical understanding of commodity storage or memory technologies (SSDs, HDDs, DRAM etc.) and knowledgeable on storage and/or memory industry trends
Proven customer obsession in prior roles where customer requirements were gathered and implemented into a product.
Product Management experience, preference for experience with SaaS businesses (i.e.M365, Data, Bing, etc.)
Demonstrated experience using financial analysis models to drive business decision making
Proven capabilities to drive positive business results by working across multiple organizations.
Experience working in a Hardware Product Development environment, including extensive experience driving programs through a Product Lifecycle Management process
Ability to build relationships and influence in a matrix organization.
Highly effective written and oral communication skills with proven ability to present to a wide range of cross-functional partners across different teams and levels of the organization.Executive Communications experience preferred.
Self-motivated, driven individual who can work in a rapidly evolving environment.
MBA or other education in Business Administration
