Reporting to the General Manager, the Operations Manager will be responsible for delivering results in safety, quality, productivity, delivery, and continuous improvement for the Miller Welding Automation division. This position requires a strong enterprise-minded leader capable of further developing a best-in-class operations strategy. The ideal candidate will utilize strong business accumen and communication skills to manage an experienced team of professionals, lead continuous improvement activities, and manage relationships with strategic build vendors and international suppliers. ERP planning and process improvement will also play a key role as the division strives to increase the functionality of a newly launched system. This is a leadership role in ITW Welding's fastest growing business segment with high visibility and important new product introductions. The ideal candidate is experienced leading teams and delivering results, has interest and ability in taking on additional responsibilty, and is able to communicate well with all levels of the organization.
Responsibilities include:
Directs and drives operations team to achieve safety, quality, throughput, on-time delivery, cost, and inventory goals
Drives improvements in quality and operational efficiencies using the ITW Toolbox and other lean manufacturing methods. Lead projects to simplify internal processes
Works with the Customer Service Manager and Engineering Manager to resolve customer needs
Defines and establishes objectives in the areas of safety, quality, and throughput, including developing specific short-term and long-term plans which may include budget and capital requests
Drive simplification and capability improvements with newly installed ERP system
Manages relationships with key suppliers and 3rd party build vendors
Supports new product development processes and leads operational aspect of new product introductions
Uses sales/inventory metrics to create operational plans and effectively manage working capital
Effectively hires and develops a diverse team of talent
Keeps employees informed as to company/department plans and performance progress
Manages 5+ Operations and Sourcing professionals in a fast-paced, dynamic organizational environment
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Operations Management or similar field required
Minimum of 5-7 years of relevant and progressive manufacturing management experience; Leadership experience with direct reports preferred
P&L experience with inventory management, budgeting, and planning capabilities preferred
Previous ERP experience strongly preferred
Change agent that demonstrates original thinking, facilitation skills, and the ability to develop innovative approaches for improving workflow and processes within the ITW Business Model
Displays an ability to work effectively within complex decision making and organizational structures. Has an ability to lead and coordinate successful cross-functional improvements with analytical skills, including the use of root cause problem-solving tools
Understands a variety of operational excellence competencies including but not limited to: ITW Toolbox, Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma, Visual Management, Value Stream Mapping, Standard Work, Kaizen, Poke Yoke, etc.
Ability to build strong, trusted, working relationships with internal and external business customers and executive level management; influence without authority and manage stakeholders/customers' expectations effectively
Proven ability to operate independently, affect change across functions, and have a track record of delivered results
Exceptional written and verbal communication/presentation skills with a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
Some travel - 20% to 30% may be required
