The Systems Engineer - Intermediate is responsible for the daily operations and maintenance of the stand-alone infrastructure, is responsible for effective provisioning, installation, configuration, operation and maintenance of infrastructure components. This position involves shift work.
In this role, you will:
Manage, maintain, and troubleshoot all stand-alone workstations and servers, and CCTV equipment.
Work closely with System Administrators to ensure systems are maintained and patched, and ensure proper DoD STIGs are in place.
Report to Computing Systems and Services Supervisor.
Provide ongoing support, maintenance, and testing of application solutions in support of operational requirements and approved initiatives as they relate to the platform.
Perform day-to-day maintenance; investigate and resolve incidents and/or change tickets for the environment.
Remain current and learn new emerging technologies in information technology, and implement innovative solutions.
Diagnose hardware / software problems and repairing / replacing defective components.
Provide effective and efficient system support of the closed lab environment and perform patches, upgrades, and repairs in preparation of deploying baseline images to systems in the field.
Coordinate and communicate with impacted service owners and stakeholders as necessary.
Execute patching, remediation, compliance, and end user support functions.
Troubleshoot new and existing CCTV systems and IP Devices such as IP Cameras, Network Video Recorders, Analytics, and other hardware devices via Service calls.
Backup maintenance including daily backup operations to ensure all required file systems and data are successfully backed up on the appropriate device.
Work closely with system / software designers, vendors, operators, cybersecurity, and engineering to keep the systems secure and reliable.
Utilize an asset management system and / or configuration management database.
Participate outage response for conditions related to application service delivery and its components.
Evaluate technologies and provide tactical direction and outage response for the system infrastructure, server platforms, and configurations.
Conduct technical research and development to enable continuous service improvement of the infrastructure.
Create from scratch or updating existing documentation for processes, procedures, or references.
Provide advice or recommending a course of action to Computing Systems and Services Supervisor on resolving technical problems or improving the technology infrastructure.
Participation in planning new hardware acquisitions, interacting with vendors, educating customers, and communicating and collaborating with other projects within the organization.
Interpret technical information.
Discuss the information with others including such information with concepts or terminology with which many people may be unfamiliar.
Maintain a highly diverse and fast-paced workload that may include a variety of tasks, efforts, or projects.
Provide education and training to other engineers for the subject matter.
Provide technical support for Tier 2-3.
Work with minimal supervision with wide latitude for independent judgment.
Decisions normally have a noticeable effect.
Use sound judgement and work with peers to make sound, data-driven decisions.
Provide after-hours coverage and escalation support.
Occasional after-hours work, to include weekends, may be required.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will have:
Requires a Bachelor's degree and 2-4 years of related experience or 6 years of related experience in lieu of a degree.
Windows and Linux installation and administration.
Experience with Active Directory and Group Policy Object creation, dissemination, and troubleshooting.
Experience with Installation, configuration, and maintenance of Windows server and desktop operating systems.
Intermediate skill administering Windows Server 2008R2, 2012, 2012R2, and 2016.
Proven experience working with NAS and SAN devices such as Synology storage arrays.
Proven experience working with the TCP/IP stack and related services.
Proven experience working with DNS, DHCP, and IP addressing schemes.
Comprehensive knowledge of server hardware and cabling.
Strong knowledge of systems administration principles and practices.
Proven knowledge of implementing defined security measures in order to protect data, software, and hardware.
Customer communication and service skills.
Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
Be familiar with the field's concepts, practices, and procedures.
US citizenship required
Additional desired skills and experience:
CompTIA Security+, CompTIA Server+, CompTIA Network+ Experience administering PostgreSQL
Experience with CCTV systems and IP Cameras.
In compliance with Colorado's Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, the salary range for this role is $60,736.00 to $91,312.00; however, Serco considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills.
