What We're Looking For
Responsible for the production and modification of design calculations, technical reports, engineering plans and specifications for assigned projects. This position works closely with the project manager to perform research, development, calculations, design and delivery. Applies engineering techniques, procedures and design criteria for projects ranging in size and complexity. Leverages technical knowledge, experience and client relationships to assist in the execution and evaluation of project designs. Develops conceptual and detailed designs and calculations to support the project execution using current drawing and technical tools, programs and software. May mentor, train and review work of junior engineer staff and provide constructive feedback. As a member of the team, you will contribute to the successful project delivery for a diverse range of projects for HNTB's clients.
Primary Focus Will Include:
Develop CADD plans for ITS, concept traffic design, signing and pavement marking, lighting design, etc. Oversee the work of younger staff and train them in engineering design.
Review scopes, design plans, cost estimates, special provisions, specifications, systems engineering documents, etc.
Develop procurement documents, including Requests for Proposals (RFP), scope of services, and project cost estimates.
Develop and update project-level architectures, systems engineering documents, and Concept of Operations documents
Develop presentations, white papers, reports, performance measures reports, policies, procedures, and guidance
Applied knowledge of Transportation Engineering Standards such as MUTCD, Design Standards, Traffic Engineering fundamentals, ITS design standards, etc.
Work in the areas of connected and automated vehicles, managed lanes, and arterial management
Develop and review Regional Traffic Management Center (RTMC) active arterial management operational procedures or guidelines
Provide support with developing guidance for adaptive signal control systems, efficient signal operations, and other arterial management-related aspects.
Study national best practices in such areas as Signal Performance Metrics, and the Regional Transportation Operations Programs across the nation, and offer pragmatic approaches for the state to advance traffic operations.
Manage multiple tasks, projects, and various assignments
Perform data analytics using safety and traffic operations data with tools such as Excel and other database management systems.
Preparing detailed and managerial dashboards using various tools such as Excel, Tableau, and Microsoft BI.
Working independently with minimal supervision.
Understand and consult the client on their needs.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
Master's degree in Engineering
Engineer in Training (EIT) certification
Professional Engineer (PE) certification
Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification

Performs quality control reviews of discipline - specific engineering project elements/deliverables.
Assists with coordination and planning of schedules, hours, and distribution of work within discipline.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering and 4 years of relevant experience
Master's degree in Engineering and 3 year of relevant experience
PhD in Engineering and 2 years of relevant experience
