Job Description

Vaughn & Melton, a JMT Company, is seeking a Design Engineer for their Charlotte Water Resources Team. The successful candidate will be responsible for engineering design using knowledge of general engineering principles and practices to interpret, organize, execute and coordinate assignments. Sponsorship not available for this position. As a condition of employment, hire will be required to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19. Proof of vaccination will need to be submitted as part of the interview/hiring process.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Analyze and design storm drainage systems

  • Analyze and design stormwater management practices

  • Perform Hydrologic and Hydraulic analysis

  • Develop Erosion and Sediment Control plans

  • Perform inspection and assessment of constructed stormwater management practices

  • Complete permit applications for state and local agencies

  • Perform alternative studies

  • Design projects in accordance with client specifications and guidelines, using design software and drawing tools

  • Develop construction cost estimates

  • Assist in the preparation of engineering documents for advertisement and construction

  • Coordinate with internal team members to ensure project completion by the defined deadline and established quality

Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Required Skills

  • Proficient in hydrologic and hydraulic analysis and design software

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Required Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field from ABET accredited engineering program

    Preferred Experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil or Environmental Engineering with emphasis in Water Resources from an ABET accredited engineering program

  • Engineer-in-training certification

  • 3-5 Years Related experience in Water Resources Design

  • Experience working with local clients at the county and state level

  • Hydraulic Modeling experience using HEC-RAS and/or HY-8 preferred

  • Experience with MicroStation

Working Conditions

Work is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.

Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required as needed.
