KBR is looking for a highly motivated Research Associate to support DoD-sponsored flight and altitude research conducted by the Aerospace Physiology division of the Air Force Research Laboratory. This position is responsible for supporting biomedical research focused on understanding the normal human response to flight and space, and developing, testing, and delivering countermeasures to those untoward responses that may affect crew health, safety, and/or performance during or after missions.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Participates in research study planning and execution, including participant recruitment and retention.
Obtains informed consent.
Administers tests &/or questionnaires following protocols.
Collects, compiles, tabulates & processes responses.
Gathers information.
Extracts & analyzes data from medical charts.
Completes basic clinical procedures such as drawing blood & obtaining blood pressure.
Collects, records, reviews & summarizes research data.
Collates relevant mathematical results and prepares tables, charts & graphs.
Prepares reports for investigators and sponsors on recruitment status and other pertinent study data.
Writes portions of grant applications/proposals & co-author scientific papers.
Completes documents associated with current local, state, & federal regulatory guidelines, requirements, laws & research protocols.
May process payments for research participants per study protocol.
Coordinates reimbursements for panel travel, subject pay, additional gift card orders, etc. and ensure costs remain within allotted project budget.
Performs other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in a major such as social or health science or related; OR appropriate combination of education and experience and 2 years' research study or other relevant experience required.
Must complete IRB CITI training before interacting with any participants & must re-certify every 3 years.
Required Qualifications:
Commitment to working hard under strict timelines while balancing multiple projects in the context of shifting priorities
Ability to work in a professional manner as both a self-starter and a team member
Knowledge of the scientific method
Excellent writing skills
Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills
Experience with obtaining informed consent from study participants
Experience with data collection e.g., conducting surveys, semi-structured interviews, or focus groups
Strong proficiency with MS Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Preferred Qualifications:
At least 1-2 years of research experience in social or health sciences
Master's degree in Public Health or social sciences or health sciences
Institutional Review Board preparation and submission experience
Experience with writing and co-authoring publications
Experience with recruiting and obtaining informed consent from research study participants
Experience collecting data from human subjects
Qualitative research and analysis experience
Experience with SPSS or R
Familiarity with health services research
Experience with running a research project
